I reviewed the Netatmo Smart Outdoor Camera (formerly Netatmo Presence) just over a year ago, and it has been one of the best surveillance cameras I have reviewed, and I still use it today.
Netatmo was one of, if not the first companies to offer AI object detection with their camera, the indoor one is smart enough to recognise peoples faces, while the outdoor one will recognise people in general, animals, cars and normal motion. This allows the camera to send far more accurate alerts to you while still recording general motion.
It was also one of the first floodlight cameras available with Ring, Ezviz, Arlo and Eufy all launching their products at a later date.
Today Netatmo has updated the camera with a new model with a built-in siren. The camera alerts the user in real-time if a break-in occurs and deters burglars. Just like the existing camera, it distinguishes between a person, an animal, a vehicle or a harmless movement and immediately warns the user if a suspicious activity is detected. The user can act straight away and remotely trigger the 105-dB alarm to scare away the intruders.
This follows on from last years launches from Netatmo expanding their product range from surveillance only to a more complete home security system. The user can now choose between the Smart Outdoor Camera with Siren and the Smart Outdoor Camera without Siren.
There has been a growing market for smart security systems in the past year or so, Ring launched their smart alarm in the UK, Yale has their own Sync Smart Home Alarm, and Somfy have a growing range of smart security products. Monitored systems are also getting smarter and cheaper to implement, Simplisafe launched in the UK last year, and the Ajax system offers far more smart features than your traditional monitored system.
The Netatmo system is a little different than the others, you could argue it is smarter. There is no control pad to arm the system, instead, the Smart Indoor Camera (Welcome) will disarm the siren when it recognises a user entering the house.
Unlike some of the other systems, there is no subscription fees with Netatmo nor a reliance on cloud storage. Everything is done locally, something that has become increasingly important with the various privacy concerns that have occurred with some big name brands.

The Netatmo Smart Outdoor Camera retails for £319.99. The product will be available online on June 9th, 2020 and can be preordered starting from today. The Camera will be available on www.netatmo.com and on Amazon.

With the Netatmo Smart Outdoor Camera, the user can monitor their home via their smartphone, tablet or computer at all times, even if they are miles away.
Installed outside the home, the Camera analyses in real time if a person approaches the house, if a car pulls into the driveway or if a dog is roaming around the garden. As a result, it sends the user a precise notification and video when an event unfolds outside their home. If an intruder is detected, the user can trigger the Camera’s Siren to deter them.
For example, if the user is at work and the Camera detects a burglar in their garden, they will receive an alert on their smartphone along with a video of the event. The user can then manually trigger the Siren and its deafening 105-dB alarm from the Netatmo Security app to scare away the intruder.
Fully customisable notifications
The settings for the Outdoor Camera with Siren are fully customisable. The user can disable recordings and notifications on a case-by-case basis. The user decides whether or not to be notified or to record when the Camera detects a person, a car or an animal.
The Alert-Zones feature allows the user to define specific detection areas: around the garden shed, the front gate, the garage door, etc. The Camera only notifies the user when an event takes place in these particular areas.
Night and day protection
The Smart Outdoor Camera with Siren has a Full HD 1080p camera so it provides high-quality images in high definition, whatever the lighting conditions. Its 100-degree wide-angle lens and 20-metre field of detection ensure substantial coverage.
The Camera is also equipped with infrared night vision to monitor the home and ensure excellent vision when it’s dark.
It also has a built-in smart lighting system. If there is an alert, the light will switch on and can deter intruders.
The user can configure this smart lighting via the Netatmo Security app. For example, they can decide that the light should switch on automatically when movement is detected in order to keep possible prowlers away, or simply to light up the house porch when someone arrives.
Data protection and no subscription fees
All the features of the Outdoor Camera with Siren are available without a subscription.
The videos are stored directly on the included microSD card, with no extra costs. As the card is encrypted, it provides a higher level of protection for its contents. Therefore, potential intruders will not have access to the Camera’s images.
Videos can also be transferred to and stored on the user’s Dropbox account or personal FTP
Compatibility with interoperability platforms
The Camera is compatible with Apple HomeKit, Amazon Alexa and Google Home. Thus, the user can create personalised scenarios to connect their Camera to other connected devices in their home, in various combinations.
For example, they can decide that all the outdoor lights should light up in red when a vehicle is detected on their property.
Quick and easy installation
The Outdoor Camera with Siren can be installed in no time at all. The Siren is built into the Camera so it does not need to be installed separately.
This means the Outdoor Camera with Siren is installed like a traditional outdoor camera. Simply position it in place of an existing light or another strategic location to keep a close eye on your home, then connect it to the home’s Wi-Fi network.
The user controls the Camera remotely and accesses all of i#ts features via the Netatmo Security app on their smartphone, tablet or computer.
