TP-Link gets in on the Wi-Fi 6 action with affordable AX50 router, RE505X repeater and TX3000E PCIe adaptor

All the networking companies were jumping on board the Wi-Fi 6 / 802.11ax bandwagon at IFA. With the iPhone 11 featuring the new networking standard, we may start to see it going mainstream over the next 12 months. At the moment things are pricey, the perfect example being the new Netgear Orbi WiFi 6 Tri-band Mesh System (RBK852) which will set you back £250. TP-Link Archer AX50 TP-Link has announced the Archer AX50 which supports Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax), and it can push 2402 Mbps on the 5GHz band and 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz. It does this on an...

Jabra Elite 75t true wireless earbuds launched at IFA with an impressive to 7.5 hours battery

One of the big issues with true wireless earphones is there so so battery life. The Anker Soundcore Liberty Neo Total Wireless I previously reviewed are rated for just 3.5 hours, I am lucky to get that, and I nearly always get low battery warnings by the time I am home from the gym. So when I noticed that the Jabra Elite 75t has up to 7.5 hours battery life I was very impressed. This is then boosted with up to 28 hours via the charging case. Unlike cheaper brands these use USB-C for charging, allowing you to charge...

With all the press announcements done for IFA it is time to reflect on some of the best tech of the show and what to look forward to in 2020 Best Phone – Sony Xperia 5 The actual phone launches of IFA felt a little uninspiring, most of the hotly anticipated phones get released at their own events nowadays. The Sony Xperia 5 was an interesting launch though, the naming scheme...

Netgear Meural Canvas II launched at IFA – A digital art canvas with true to life display

One of the more interesting products I encountered at IFA was the Netgear Meural Canvas II, and it is the first time I have been made aware of this product range. If I am honest, I can't say it is something that appeals to me, but what they have achieved is impressive. It takes the concept of Digital Picture Frames, makes them bigger and gives them a lifelike display thanks to its special LCD display. It is the display that it the stand out feature here, while a 1080P display doesn't sound particularly interesting, it is the special matte...

Honor announces PocketVision to empower the visually impaired with AI

Honor didn't announce much at IFA this year, there was the £30 Honor Band 5, a demo of the already announced Honor TV which we don't know if is coming to the west or not, then PocketVision. PocketVision is probably the most interesting of the launches, while I don't cover software a lot, it is great when brands do things that actually help people. The app is designed to aid the visually impaired by making text easier to read. According to the World Health Organisation, it is estimated that approximately 1.3 billion people live with some form of visual...

Netgear Orbi WiFi 6 Tri-band Mesh System (RBK852) announced & it comes with some serious early adoptor tax

I love Netgear, I love Mesh Wi-Fi, and I love Wi-Fi 6. So I have been quite excited about the new RBK852 WiFi 6 Tri-band Mesh System from Netgear, however, you should expect some sticker shock. If you thought WiFi 6 routers were expensive then the RBK852 is going to make your toes curl. Early adopters wanting the best of the best, are going to have to layout almost £750, and I think that is only for a two-satellite system (I need confirmation on this). No doubt it is going to be a hard sell for your average consumer,...

Fitbit Versa 2 vs Misfit Vapor X vs Garmin Vivoactive 4 – Which will be the best fitness smartwatch at IFA 2019?

It looks like the wearables hall will be buzzing with activity at IFA this year based the rumours and leaks that have been revealed recently. The Misfit Vapor X is the only confirmed watch, and they are owned by the Fossil Group so it should be at the show this year. Most companies will be announcing their products at the show, so we can't know for certain what will be there. The recent barrage of Garmin leaks would indicate that the Vivoactive 4 is very likely to arrive, and maybe a new line called the Venu. The Fitbit Versa...

Philips Kitchen Solutions at IFA 2018 – An app-enabled blender and perfect coffee

I have reviewed some smart kitchen appliances in the past including a kettle and coffee machine, but the smart home trend seems to have been slow to spread into the kitchen. At IFA 2018 this changed somewhat and there were many connected devices including fridges, ovens and washing machines. Philips also has two exciting gadgets to make your kitchen that little bit smarter. High-Speed Connected Blender Saeco Xelsis SM7686 Connected Blender The Philips smart blender can help people on achieving specific health goals such as boosting their energy, reduce their sugar and calorie intake, or increase their general well-being....

Philips IFA 2018: Philips Diamond CleanSmart is the most advanced toothbrush on the market

The Philips Sonicare brand is still the number 1 recommended sonic electric toothbrush brand by dental professionals worldwide and is typically one of two brands anyone uses when it comes to electronic toothbrushes. Therefore, it was not surprising that Philips had a large section of their hall dedicated to their dental solutions. Many people don’t take their dental health seriously enough, and as a result, it often leads to painful and expensive issues later down the line. Just going to the dental hygienist is unpleasant enough for me, I don’t particularly want to experience a root canal or other major...
