With the Black Friday sales starting soon, and Christmas fast approaching us I thought it would be a good idea to cover some of the best fitness tech that will likely be featured during the sales.
This won’t necessarily be the best or latest tech, but the things you can expect to get a good discount on during this year’s Black Friday
Garmin
Garmin Fenix 5 Plus
Don’t expect any massive discounts on the Garmin Fenix 6, but with its recent release you should be able to pick up the almost as good Fenix 5 Plus for an amazing price, during Prime Day we saw the F5Plus drop down to £400, so it would be nice to see it go as low as £350. It is currently just £429.99 which is already a good price.
Alternatively, the original Fenix 5/5S is worth considering, this is currently just £350 with a lowest price of £289.99

Garmin Vivoactive 3
This has been superseded by the Vivoactive 4, but it means there is a good chance this will hit the lowest price ever during Black Friday. Currently, at £150 its lowest price has been £134.99 and it is a superb entry sports watch with superior looks over the Fenix 235 which I used to recommend at this price point.

Garmin Forerunner 45
Currently the cheapest running watch Garmin does, the design has been updated with a circular face making it much more attractive than the FR35 it replaces. This is a great entry watch and I think a much better buy than fitness tracking bands such as FitBit which are often priced around the same.

Garmin HRM-Run
If you have one of the compatible Forerunner watches, I would say the HRM-Run (or the more expensive Tri) are a wise investment. With a current price of £59 it is not exactly cheap for a chest strap but it provides you with 6 running dynamic metrics including cadence, stride length, and ground contact time. It can’t compete with more advanced tech like Stryd, but it is one of the more affordable options to get run dynamics and running power.

Garmin Edge 520 Plus
This is one step up from the older 520 and the current price of £150 is superb. This features new navigation alerts including turn by turn directions over the none plus model. While the Garmin Edge 530 is superb it currently retails for over £100 more at £259.67

Garmin Edge 820
It has been replaced by the Edge 830, and the Garmin Edge 520 Plus is probably a better deal. The Edge 820 has been as low as £150 back in September, so it is worth keeping an eye on too.

Polar
Polar OH1 +
The Polar OH1 has been one of my favourite pieces of fitness tech in recent years. There is nothing exciting about it at all but I have had it 18 months now and it has never caused me any problems, always connects and provides accurate results. This is my go-to heart rate monitor as it is more comfortable to wear than a chest strap, has a rechargeable battery and seems less prone to failure than the HRM-Run. The older model was updated to support Ant and the + model comes with it out of the box.

Polar Vantage V
Garmin is generally superior, and I prefer their ecosystem, but if all you need is something to accurately track your activities it is always worth looking at the other brands. The Polar Vantage V is the flagship Polar device, and it is the first watch to feature running power built-in. With a current price of £321.59 this could end up being cheaper than the Fenix 5 Plus during the sales

Polar Vantage M
And you can save even more money opting for the Polar Vantage M. This model lacks some of the Firstbeat features including recovery pro, it also does not have wrist-based running power or a barometer, but with a current price of £196 the closes Garmin watch is the 3-year-old Garmin Forerunner 735XT at £199.99 or the more expensive Garmin Forerunner 245 at £220.

Suunto
Suunto 5
The same situation as Garmin, while Suunto may not compete very well overall, the pricing is attractive at just £235.45 for this model. I have reviewed the Suunto 5 and it is a great watch, I think well worth the current asking price. It also looks good on the wrist so works well for 24/7 wear. The competing priced Garmin device would be the Garmin Forerunner 245, which is an amazing watch, but lacks Triathalon features and is now properly compatible with power meters.

Suunto 9
The flagship device from Suunto which has a touch screen and barometer compared to the 5. The Suunto 9 is a great watch and worth considering if there is a big discount from the current £397.95 price tag.

Fitbit
Fitbit Versa
With a current price of £150, the original Versa could be the Fitbit device to opt for during the Black Friday sales. The Fitbit Versa 2 is currently £187.00 and I doubt it will be worth the extra money, as the original will likely receive a larger discount during the sales

Fitbit Charge 3
I think you will get more band for your buck from the Versa, but the Fitbit Charge series always gets discounted during Black Friday and tends to be one of the bigger discounts available.

Others
Ticwatch E2 WearOS Smart Watch
While I am not a huge fan of WearOS due to the shocking battery life, Mobvoi are one of the best companies for WearOS watches.
The Ticwatch E2 has an RRP of £145 but at the time of writing, it is just £102 which is an amazing price for something with so much functionality.

Samsung Galaxy Watch Active
Samsung watches are arguably better than other none Apple smartwatches as they use the Tizen OS and have a better chipset than the WearOS counterparts. The Active2 is out now but that is currently £269

Withings Body+ Smart Body Composition Digital Scale
I own these, in fact, I have bought them twice, after smashing the first one. While there are a lot of arguments for and against scales for weight loss/gain I am still a believer in them and having something that syncs the Withings service allows you to keep track of your progress historically show the trend of your weight and stopping you obsessing about weight gain/loss over a 24-hour period.

Withings – Sleep Sensing & Home Automation Pad
If I am honest, I feel like you could get similar results with sleep tracking with the Honor Band 5 which I recommend further down. However, if you want a sleep-tracking pad then the Withings Sleep Pad is the best on the market in my opinion and has the added benefit of identifying snoring and potential apnea issues.

Huawei Watch GT
While I had mixed feelings over the Huawei Watch GT 2 due to its lack of Strava support, I did like everything else about it. Superb battery life and one of the best-looking watches on the market. It is not technically a smartwatch, the OS doesn’t allow apps but it has all the features I wanted from it (apart from the data export).
If you are looking for a deal, the original GT is likely to get a bigger discount and it is already attractively priced at £129.

With an RRP of just £29.99 the Honor Band 5 is already incredibly priced and a great option as a stocking filler for someone wanting to get into fitness. Don’t expect a massive price reduction but I would imagine £25 is likely.
