Today at Next@Acer, the brand announced their 2nd special edition laptop, the Acer Predator Triton 500 SE.

I previously reviewed the Acer Predator Triton 300 SE, which is the first sub-15” laptop from Acer and, in my opinion, the best small form gaming laptop on the market at the moment due to the attractive price to performance.

The Acer Predator Triton 500 SE is another new form factor using a 16-inch display and offering the highest spec possible while maintaining a somewhat portable form factor.

Acer has also updated the Predator Helios 500, it looks like this has not been refreshed since 2018, and it is one of the largest models in the Acer product portfolio.

While the overall form factor of the two laptops is quite a bit different, the actual specification is similar.

Display & Dimensions

The Triton 500 SE has a 16-inch 16:10 display with an 87% screen-to-body ratio and three-panel options. This includes a 165 Hz WQXGA Mini LED panel with 1250 peak nits and 100% coverage of the sRGB colour gamut or a 240 Hz WQXGA IPS PolarBlack panel with a 3 ms response time and 100% coverage of the DCI-P3 colour gamut for an even smoother gameplay experience.

The Helios 500 has two options: a 4K Mini LED 120 Hz display powered by AUO AmLED technology that supports full-array local dimming and is comparable to VESA Display HDR 1000, allowing for top-of-the-line colour saturation and contrast.  Or AUO’s superfast FHD 360 Hz display rocking a 3 ms response time for the smoothest image possible.

No word on overall dimensions or weight, but the SE is just 19.9 mm thin, this is up from 17.9 mm on last years 15.6” Triton 500, which also weighed 2.2kg, so expect a bit heavier than that.

Acer makes no mention of any dimension for the Helis 500. However, the model from 2018 was 42.9 x 29.7 x 3.8cm & weighs 4kg.

As usual with laptops, there will likely be multiple configurations launched, so exact specs are not confirmed.

The larger laptop is stated as having to an overclockable 11th Gen Intel Core i9 processor, which should be the Intel Core i9-11980HK Processor

For the Triton 500 SE, the press release makes no mention of overclockable, so I assume it is the i9-11950H.

Both laptops will have the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Laptop GPU and (up to) 64 GB of DDR4 3200 MHz – The press release doesn’t use the words “up to” on the larger model.

Storage is quite a bit different.

The SE has up to 4 TB of high-speed PCIe Gen4 storage. This will likely be from a single M.2 slot.

The larger model makes no mention of total storage capacity, but it uses a pair of PCIe NVMe SSDs in RAID 0 and one SATA HDD

Other Bits – Networking etc

Both laptops have the Intel Killer E3100G Ethernet Controller, which has 2.5GbE and the  Intel Killer Wi-Fi 6 AX1650i, which is Wi-Fi 6E

The SE then has a full range of USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports, including dual Thunderbolt 4 Type-C ports, which support DisplayPort and a SD 7.0 card reader, which provides players with plenty of room for all their peripherals.

Whereas the larger model can fit a bit more in with one HDMI 2.1, one mini-DP 1.4, two USB Type-C Thunderbolt™ 4, three USB 3.2 Gen2 ports that support offline charging.
