Following on from the Yale Linus Smart Lock news, Yale have also expanded their product range with a variety of smart storage solutions. Basically, everything Yale is known for will eventually become smart.
There are two new products for the UK and a Smart Delivery Box for the US.
Yale Smart Delivery Box
I feel like this, or something similar would work in the UK too, there are too many times I miss a delivery or pickup and have to reschedule things. Anyway, the US has a serious issue with porch pirates, this has likely been a factor quick growth of the smart camera industry, and the Yale Smart Delivery Box hopes to eliminate this problem.
It is a simple concept when the delivery box is opened and a delivery is placed inside, it will lock itself and send you a notification.
Alternatively, you can pair it up with a camera then unlock the box manually when you are notified the delivery is here.
The box will work with the new Yale Access app and you will be able to see a full history of events.
Obviously, a thief could just steal or break the box, but this will at least slow them down. It will be interesting to see how much it weighs and how easy it is to break, or if there are any mount points so you can anchor it to the floor.
The box will be available in spring 2020 for $229 on its own. It’ll cost $279 with the Yale Connect Wi-Fi Bridge or $299 with a cooler bag insert to keep food deliveries fresh.
There is no word on a UK launch and I don’t expect it will be launched here.
Yale Smart Safe
I am surprised it has taken Yale this long to release a smart safe, I was sure they had one out. Yale already has a huge safe range including fire safes and certified safes up to £20k in valuables.
The Smart Safe can be placed anywhere or mounted to the floor or wall for more durability. When connected to the Yale Connect Wi-Fi Bridge, customers can use the Yale Access app to lock, unlock or grant access remotely. However, customers also have the option to easily lock and unlock it through the keypad on the safe using a customisable entry code.
I would assume the Yale Access app will also inform you when the safe has been accessed. There is no mention of it, but I would have thought it would be a good idea to fit a gyroscope allowing the safe to notify if someone is physically trying to access the safe.
The safe comes with a removable shelf, four AA batteries and a physical key. If the batteries run out, users can temporarily power the Smart Safe by holding up a 9V battery, enter their code and replace the batteries inside. Should users not have a phone or forget their code, they’re able to use the included key as a back-up entry method.
There is no UK availability or price announced yet, but in the US it will be spring 2020 for $229 on its own or $279 with a Yale Connect Wi-Fi Bridge.

The Smart Cabinet Lock by Yale offers heightened security and convenience to cabinet storage. From medicine cabinets and jewellery boxes to staff lockers, the smart cabinet lock provides users with the comfort of added protection in their day to day lives.
The Smart Cabinet Lock goes inside cabinets or drawers to secure valuable belongings, or items that should be kept out of reach from children (e.g. cleaning supplies, medicines, liquor). With the Yale Access app, customers can get notified whenever the cabinet or drawer opens, as well as see if the Smart Cabinet Lock has been locked or unlocked.
Users will also be able to check if the door or drawer has been left open or closed. Like a tamper alarm, the Smart Cabinet Lock will trigger if the cabinet is broken into, as well as auto-unlock when batteries die.
The lock body can be mounted on the cabinet’s interior base or roof using either the included adhesive or screws for a more permanent installation. Also included is a glow-in-the-dark emergency escape button.
Again, no word on the price or when this launches in the UK, but in the US it will be available in spring 2020 for $79
