Xiaomi Group Vice President & Redmi GM Lu Weibing has officially stated that the Redmi K30 to arrive in 2020 with 5G support.

In recent weeks Realme, OPPO and Nokia have all been reported as having an affordable 5G phone in the works. Realme has said they will be the first company to launch such a phone and it could arrive before the year is out.

While the exact chipset has not been confirmed, it will almost certainly be the Qualcomm Snapdragon 735. Apart from integrating a 5G modem, this is claimed to come with a moderate upgrade to the recently launched Snapdragon 730G with higher clock speeds and an improved Adreno 620 GPU.

The Xiaomi Redmi K20 has been one of the most popular affordable phones of the year and Xiaomi will no doubt be eager to monopolise on this.

Lu Weibing wasn’t specific about the timeframe for the Redmi K30, but with the other companies scrapping to get their phone out the doors quickly, I would expect the phone to launch early in the year.

Lu Weibing has been already confirmed that Redmi K30 will be arriving with dual connectivity SA / NSA 5G support.

A photo showcased by the company reveals Redmi K30 will have a dual punch-hole style selfie camera, moving away from the pop-up on the current model.

What is unsure is if or when the Pro model will launch. This will likely have to be 5G too, so would need to use the unannounced Snapdragon 865. Samsung is normally the first to launch a device with the latest Qualcomm flagship chipset, which is usually towards the end of February.

The Redmi K20 was announced back in May this year featuring the  Snapdragon 730 chipset and uses an AMOLED display without a punch hole or notch, instead of using a motorised pop-up.
