2019 is a very exciting year for mobile, not only do we have the usual upgrades in performance from system on chips like the newly announced Snapdragon 855 and the Kiron 980, but this is the year where 5G will rollout and foldable displays.

Xiaomi has confirmed that the Mi MIX 3 with 5G capabilities will launch in Europe in 2019. Xiaomi recently showcased the 5G version of MiMIX 3 at the China Mobile Global Partner Conference in GuangZhou, China.

The Mi MIX 3 with 5G will be powered by Snapdragon 855 processor, which has a 7nm design like the Apple 12 Bionic chipset and Huawei’s Kirin 980. Mi MIX 3 sports a 6.39-inch AMOLED display with an aspect ratio of 19.5:9 and a 93.4 per cent screen-to-body ratio.

The Mi MIX 3 has a ceramic-clad design with the side frame made of 7000-series aluminium alloy. The phone has a sliding display with and like we saw on the Oppo Find X and Vivo Nex phones, where the sensors and front cameras are all placed.

The current Mi MIX 3 was released in October and uses the Snapdragon 845 SoC and has storage and RAM options of 256 GB, 8/10 GB RAM or 128 GB, 6/8GB RAM.

The current version also has a dual rear lens with 12 MP (wide), f/1.8 and 12 MP (telephoto) and it has a 3200 mAh battery

With an upgrade in the processor and the inclusion of 5G I feel like it would have made more sense to name this differently. Surely this is enough of an upgrade to be classed as the Xiaomi Mi MIX 4?
