Tozo HT2 Active Noise Cancelling Wireless Headphones Review scaled

Any links to online stores should be assumed to be affiliates. The company or PR agency provides all or most review samples. They have no control over my content, and I provide my honest opinion.

I have reviewed a few products from Tozo and have been generally impressed. They tend to be a bit rough around the edges, the build quality is often a bit cheap, and the app is clunky, but the overall sound quality for the price point is normally excellent.

The Tozo HT2 are much the same. At the time of writing, they are priced at £45 on Amazon, so I think you will be hard pressed to find a pair of ANC headphones that are significantly better at this price.

Features

Noise Cancellation with Adjustable Modes

The headphones come equipped with a noise cancellation feature that can be modified with a single press of a button. Users can toggle between different noise cancellation levels to match their environment, ensuring a balance between sound clarity and reduced background noise. This feature is ideal for a variety of situations, such as commuting, working in noisy settings, or relaxing at home.

Adjustable Headband for Personalised Fit

The headband features a customisable design with marked levels, allowing users to adapt the headphones to different head sizes and shapes. This ensures a secure fit that remains comfortable even during active movements, making the headphones suitable for extended use.

Comfortable and Breathable Ear Pads

The ear cushions are made from soft, breathable materials that promote air circulation. This design minimises heat and moisture build-up around the ears, providing a comfortable listening experience over long periods without causing discomfort.

Long Battery Life for Uninterrupted Listening

The headphones are powered by a robust 500mAh battery that supports up to 60 hours of playback without active noise cancellation and up to 40 hours with the feature turned on. This extended battery life ensures reliable performance for travel, work, or leisure without frequent recharging.

Convenient Key Controls

The headphones feature an intuitive control interface:

  • Single press: Play/pause or answer/hang up calls.
  • Double press: Skip to the next track.
  • Triple press: Return to the previous track.
  • Press and hold: Activate voice assistant functionality or reject calls. The volume can also be adjusted via dedicated buttons, providing users with comprehensive playback and call management options.

USB Type-C Fast Charging

The headphones support fast charging through a USB Type-C port. This allows for rapid and hassle-free charging, ensuring the device remains powered up and ready to use with minimal downtime.

Durable and Lightweight Design

The headphones are built with a focus on durability while maintaining a lightweight structure. This combination ensures they are easy to carry around and capable of withstanding daily use.

Unboxing / Design / Fit

Tozo HT2 Design

These are affordable headphones, so the overall design and build quality are basic. They are quite plasticy and light, but there is a good level of cushion on the earcups, which creates a comfortable fit.

I have a relatively large head, and I find they clamp on my head with a reasonable amount of force. It is a tighter fit than normal, but it also help ensure a tight seal with the earcups.

The controls are on the right earcup as well as the USB-C charging port and there is also a 3.5mm jack which is always a welcome inclusion on modern headphones.

Tozo App and Settings

The Tozo app allows users to customise settings such as equaliser presets and noise cancellation modes. However, the app’s interface is less polished than those offered by competitors like Sony, Jabra or even Soundcore.

But, it has important functions. In particular, I like that they include a large number of EQ settings. My hearing isn’t analytical enough to adjust sound appropriately, and it makes things easier by clicking on a preset until you find one that you like.

Sound Quality

Tozo HT2 ear cups

Sound quality is impressive for a pair of £45 headphones. With the standard EQ, there is a slight warmth to the sound, but it is generally well-balanced.

For most of my listening, I typically favour a bass-forward sound profile. I am very sensitive to highs and find too much treble very fatiguing.

I enjoyed the Base+ profile, even though it sacrifices quite a bit of detail. It is a fun, sound profile to use, not analytical.

The wide range of EQ settings allows you to dial in the settings to your liking. The 40mm dynamic drivers are capable of adjusting to the different EQs reasonably well, and I found that the Original pre-set was enjoyable to listen to for tracks that are more reliant on vocals. I have been listening to a lot of folk punk/goth folk recently, and this sound profile works well for this genre.

While these headphones are not audiophile-grade, they perform admirably for casual listening across genres like pop, rock, and electronic music. The support for AAC/SBC codecs ensures compatibility with most devices but limits high-resolution audio playback compared to models supporting aptX or LDAC codecs.

Active Noise Cancellation

The ANC performance of the HT2 is respectable but not groundbreaking. The headphones effectively reduce low-frequency sounds like the hum of an aeroplane engine or air conditioning units. However, higher-frequency noises, such as conversations, are less effectively muffled.

Doing my normal synthetic test, playing airplane cabin noise on my Edifier S3000 Pro speakers, the headphones did a reasonably good job. Not as good as most options at a higher price point but quite impressive considering their affordable nature. They left quite a lot of the high end but the more intrusive low end was significantly reduced. This made it possible to listen to music or watch media at a moderate volume.

One nice feature is the range of noise control modes, including Transparency Mode, which allows external sounds to pass through for safety or awareness.

Microphone / Call Quality

The HT2 does OK during calls. They are equipped with Tri-Mic ENC (Environmental Noise Cancellation) and can handle small amounts of environmental noise well, but they struggled in noisier environments.

For casual use, such as video calls or phone conversations, the microphone quality is satisfactory. Professionals requiring crystal-clear audio for remote meetings may find the HT2 lacking compared to dedicated headsets or higher-end headphones.

Battery Life

Battery life is one of the HT2’s standout features. With ANC off, users can enjoy up to 60 hours of playback. Even with ANC enabled, the headphones deliver a commendable 40 hours. This makes them an excellent choice for long trips or extended workdays.

Price and Alternative Options

The Tozo HT2 are listed on Amazon for £50, but at the time of writing, they have £5 off, taking them to £45.

There are a few good alternatives including:

Edifier W800BT Pro, which were just £40 at the time of writing.

Edifier W820NB, which were £48 at the time of writing.

Soundcore Space One, which were £55 at the time of writing.

Overall

The Tozo HT2 ANC headphones are a solid choice for budget-conscious consumers seeking decent sound quality, effective ANC, and long battery life. While the build quality and app experience are not amazing, this is true for most headphones at this price, which are outweighed by the headphones’ strengths.

For casual listeners or those new to ANC headphones, the HT2 offers an excellent package at an affordable price. However, users with more demanding needs may need to explore higher-end options.
