The Tado X Product Range
The full range of Tado X products includes:
- Wired Smart Thermostat X: A wired thermostat that offers advanced smart heating control and integration with other devices.
- Wireless Smart Thermostat X: A wireless variant of the smart thermostat, providing flexibility and ease of installation.
- Smart Radiator Thermostat X: A thermostat designed for individual radiator control, enhancing zone-based heating management.
- Wireless Temperature Sensor X: A sensor that provides accurate temperature readings, helping to optimise heating performance.
- Heat Pump Optimizer X: A device that optimises heat pump performance, leading to greater energy savings and efficiency.
- Bridge X (Thread Border Router): A bridge that enables seamless communication between Tado X devices and other Thread-enabled devices.
Simplifying Smart Heating for Every Household
The Tado X range consists of five new products designed to make smart heating more straightforward and accessible to a wider audience. These products include the Wired Smart Thermostat X, Wireless Smart Thermostat X, Smart Radiator Thermostat X, Wireless Temperature Sensor X, and Heat Pump Optimizer X. The company claims that its new range will help households cut heating costs and consumption by an average of 19% without compromising on comfort. Christian Deilmann, Tado’s CPO and Co-founder, stated, “Our latest generation of products are another step on our mission to make it simpler for millions of homes to decrease their energy consumption and bills without compromising on comfort.”
Embracing the Future with Matter and Thread
Tado X is future-proofed with the adoption of Matter and Thread standards, ensuring seamless integration with other smart home devices. Matter is a new smart home connectivity standard that allows devices from different manufacturers to work together seamlessly, while Thread is a low-power, secure, and reliable mesh networking protocol that provides greater range and more stable coverage. The inclusion of these standards in Tado X products not only simplifies the user experience but also contributes to the transition to renewable energy by enabling more efficient energy management.
With Tado X using Thread, the bridge acts as a Thread Border Router, and you also have the option to use any other Thread Border Router from other brands, such as the Apple TV 4K, Google Nest WiFi Pro and SmartThings.
What is Matter?
Matter is a unified IP-based connectivity protocol built on proven technologies, helping connect and build reliable, secure IoT ecosystems. It is an open-source, royalty-free connectivity standard that enables communication across smart home devices, mobile apps, and cloud services. Matter aims to create more connections between more objects, simplifying development for manufacturers and increasing compatibility for consumers.
What is Thread?
Thread is a low-power, secure, and scalable IPv6-based networking protocol for IoT products. It is designed to support a wide range of smart home devices, such as thermostats, lighting, and security systems. Thread creates a mesh network that can self-heal and scale up to hundreds of devices, providing a more reliable and resilient network compared to traditional Wi-Fi or Bluetooth solutions.

Heat Pump Optimizer X
One of the standout products in the Tado X range is the Heat Pump Optimizer X, which brings advanced control and increased efficiency to heat pumps. When combined with Tado’s Balance subscription service and dynamic tariffs, the Heat Pump Optimizer X can lead to significant savings for households. Additionally, it works seamlessly with the Smart Radiator Thermostat X and Smart Thermostat X (for underfloor heating) to deliver even greater efficiencies and precise temperature control for individual rooms and zones.
Smart Radiator Thermostat X
The Tado Smart Radiator Thermostat X is a smart heating control device that allows you to regulate the temperature of individual radiators in your home using the Tado app. Key features and details include:
- Control radiators remotely via the Tado app, saving energy and costs without compromising comfort
- Easy DIY installation
- Rechargeable battery using a USB-C cable, eliminating the need for additional batteries
- Requires a tado° Bridge X or another Thread border router to function
- Compatible with most radiator valve types, with adapters included in each pack
- Can be controlled using smart assistants
- Suitable for use in bathrooms
- 30-day return policy
- Available individually at a regular price of €99.99 or in various starter kits and bundles.
Compatibility and Availability
It is important to note that Tado X devices are not compatible with earlier Tado product lines, such as V3+, as they use different technology platforms. Customers looking to switch to Tado X will need to replace their existing setup entirely. The company is working on making this process easier for users.
The Tado X range offers high compatibility with heat pumps, thanks to the Heat Pump Optimizer X. It also works with most boilers that support relay connections and modulating Opentherm connections. However, compared to the V3+ range, Tado X products are compatible with a smaller array of modulating boilers.
The full Tado X product range will be launched in the UK in September 2024, coinciding with the release of the new wireless variant of the Smart Thermostat X. The products, except for the Wireless Smart Thermostat X, were launched in Europe on May 15, 2024.
