Update: Within hours of posting this, Realme confirmed the launch date. It will be on the 15th of June, and you can watch the live stream on the Realme YouTube Channel

I have been eagerly waiting for Realme to launch its flagship phones this year. The Realme GT 5G was launched in China back in March, and last year I reviewed the Realme X50 Pro in April, so I had hoped the Realme GT would have been here by now.

It looks like the wait is nearly over. Madhav Sheth announced last week that two new models would launch globally, a performance flagship in June and a camera flagship in July. We already know that the Realme GT 5G is the performance flagship, and the camera flagship should come equipped with the MediaTek Dimensity 1200 with a 108MP camera sensor.

Pricing from Realme EU

With the Realme GT 5G launch imminent, it looks like the people managing their EU commerce store got a little over-excited and published the product page early.

The 12GB/256GB variant of the Realme GT 5G was published for a price of €549, which works out at around £475. The caveat is that the product listing is limited to shipping to Belgium, Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, and Portugal. This is not uncommon for some of the Realme products, and they have a UK store specific for us.

Realme GT 5G Specs

Cheapest Snapdragon 888 phone to launch globally

It is quite likely that the EU price won’t translate perfectly to the UK, but it could still mean the phone will launch under £500, making it the cheapest Snapdragon 888 on the market through official sellers (not grey imports).

The Xiaomi Mi 11 is currently £699, and the OnePlus 9 5G is £629. The Realme GT 5G is positioned below them in specs, though. In particular, the camera specs are nothing amazing, hence them having a flagship camera model arriving in June.

It is quite small in the world of modern flagship smartphones. With a display of 6.43 inches, the OnePlus 9 would be next at 6.55 inches and the Xiaomi MI 11 a massive 6.81 inches.

Easy recommendation as a gaming phone

This will no doubt make for an easy recommendation. While it isn’t specifically being advertised as a gaming phone, this is the inevitable target audience, with this being a superb alternative to the BlackShark 4 and the Asus ROG Phone 5.
