After announcing a bunch of amazing sounding chipsets that put them toe to toe with high-end system on chips from Qualcomm and Samsung, Mediatek appears to have run out of ideas.
While the first phone with the Mediatek Dimensity 1000L (Reno3) has been launched, we are yet to see anyone integrate the full fat Dimensity 1000. The Helio G90T is an amazing mid-range chipset on the extraordinarily successful Redmi Note 8 Pro, but to date not another phone has launched with it.
Recently we have announcements for the Helio G80 and Helio G70 both thoroughly uninspiring chipsets both being almost identical to the existing MediaTek P65.
Now they have announced the Helio P95, again, offering little in the way of technological advancement between generations. The specification is identical to the Helio P90 which launched December 2018 apart from that it has improved AI.
According to Mediatek, the ETHZ benchmark scores for AI in smartphones should be 10% higher than the result of the Helio P90. Impressive gains.
When comparing this new chipset to the recently announced Helio G80 & G70 things look a bit samey again, with the same fabrication process and the same CPU arrangement, but the P95 is higher clocked.

Mediatek Helio P95 Benchmarks – Antutu & Geekbench
At the moment there have been no benchmarks of the new Oppo Reno3 Pro featuring the Helio P95, however, with the almost identical specs of the P90 it should offer similar benchmarks to the Oppo Reno 2z.
According to reviews of the OPPO Reno2 Z you are looking at Antutu scores of between 162,660 and 220,540, that’s a big difference, but not many reviews of the phone have been posted with benchmarks. This puts it somewhere between the Snapdragon 665 and the 710.

In GeekBench 5 the Oppo Reno 2z scores 377 for the single-core and 1474 for the multi-core which according to my own personal results should put it a touch ahead of the Snapdragon 712 found on the Realme 5 Pro.

Phones with the Helio P90
To make this bit of news even more impressive. Guess how many phones feature the existing Helio P90? Two, the first was the Oppo Reno2 Z which came out in September then the other is one you probably wouldn’t have bought anyway, the Ulefone T3
Hopefully, we will start to see more companies integrate the new Dimensity so I can get back to being hyped about Mediatek.
Phones with the Mediatek Helio P95
Since writing this post, Oppo has launched the Oppo Reno3 Pro with the Helio P95, and I won’t lie, the decision to call this a Pro with the inclusion of the P95 has riled me a little. I have no doubt it is a superb phone, but it is hardly a Pro when the two other Reno3 models are better than this.
The Oppo Reno3 Pro should offer a minor bump in spec to the Oppo Reno2 Z, with improved AI processing from the chipset and the camera arranging being improved considerably with a higher MP primary lens, then the inclusion of a telephoto lens.
