The MediaTek Dimensity 1000L is a very odd chipset when you look at its specification, it is not a mid-range chipset. It is basically a slightly cut down version of the flagship Dimensity 1000 adopting the same 4x Cortex-A77 & 4xCortex-A55 design as the full-fat version. The only noticeable difference on the spec sheet is that the four Cortex-A77 cores are clocked at 2.2 GHz compared to 2.6GHz.
Currently, it is only used on the OPPO Reno3. For some reason, OPPO chose to launch the standard model with the MediaTek Dimensity 1000L, whereas the Pro model has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G uses one Kryo 475 Prime and one Kryo 475 Gold which are basically just Cortex-A76 cores, then six Kryo 475 Silver (CA55).
So it comes as no surprise that in the latest post from Antutu that ranks mid-range phones, the OPPO Reno3 absolutely dominates the competition with a score of 397965.
The next highest score is the Vivo X30 Pro 5G which uses the Samsung Exynos 980. This scores 326851, meaning the OPPO Reno3 is out in front by 22% more.
The Samsung Exynos sits somewhere in the middle of the 3 chipsets as far as spec goes. This uses 2x Cortex-A77 @ 2.2GHz and then 6x Cortex-A55 @ 1.8GHz but it uses the older Mali G76 GPU vs the Mali-G77 found in the MediaTek.
Next up is the Redmi K30 5G with the Snapdragon 765G managed a score of 322927 putting the OPPO 23% ahead.
Earlier leaks of reference devices for the Mediatek Dimensity 1000L MT6885Z indicated it was capable of 379839, so performance has improved since then.
With this chipset being positioned so oddly, being more of an affordable flagship chipset than mid-range, it will be interesting to see if and who else decides to use it in their phones, or if it was an OPPO exclusive.
