My previous experience with Yaber has been with their affordable home cinema projectors. They have all been impressive for the price, but they are budget products that perform as such.
The Yaber T2 Plus is a bit of a departure from their usual products. They already have the Pico T1 portable projector, but that is a 540P projector that’s just 13mm thick. The Yaber T2 Plus, on the other hand, is a normal portable projector that positions itself against popular options from brands such as Anker Nebula, XGIMI and BenQ.
The specification holds up well against many of the popular options while still keeping the low price point Yaber is well known for.

Yaber Projector T2 vs T2 Plus
The only difference between the T2 and T2 Plus is that the Plus model comes with a separate Google TV dongle and a superior remote control, Bluetooth and IR. At the time of writing, I can’t find the Plus model available to buy in the UK.

Unboxing / Design

The Yaber T2 Plus comes in a well-packaged box that includes the projector, power cord, HDMI cable, remote control (Bluetooth & IR), TV dongle, and TV dongle adaptor. The inclusion of a Google TV dongle sets the T2 Plus apart from its non-Plus counterpart.
The design of the T2 Plus is both functional and aesthetically pleasing. Its dimensions of 165 × 140 × 290mm make it compact enough for portability while still housing powerful components. The projector weighs 2.5kg, which is reasonable for a device of its capabilities.

One handy feature is the integrated handle, which serves multiple purposes. It allows for easy transportation and can be rotated to act as a stand, providing stability and the ability to adjust the projection angle up to 15 degrees.
The T2 Plus sports a modern, minimalist look with soft, curved edges and a warm colour palette. This design choice allows it to blend seamlessly into various environments, whether it’s a living room or an outdoor setting.

The projector’s build quality feels solid, with attention given to durability for outdoor use. The fully sealed optical engine helpsto prevent dust accumulation and ensure longevity.
One minor gripe is the C7 figure of eight power lead to charge the projector. If it used USB-C Power Delivery, you would have the flexibility to extend the battery life with a power bank.
Operating System / Google TV

Yaber has made the unusual decision to use the basic Yaber OS for the projector itself, this has a similar level of functionality as the affordable Yaber projectors. There are no apps and limited functionality.
The Yaber T2 Plus then includes a Google TV dongle, , providing users with a versatile and user-friendly interface. This combination offers access to a wide range of streaming services and apps, enhancing the projector’s functionality.
While it seems like an odd way to do things, I am not opposed to it. I would hope this allows them to keep the costs down, and the vast majority of projectors that have Android built-in don’t have Netflix. You can sideload it, but you will be limited to SDR due to DRM issues.
The Google TV interface is intuitive and easy to navigate, offering personalized recommendations and a unified search across multiple streaming platforms. This integration significantly enhances the user experience, making it simple to find and enjoy content.
One potential drawback is that the Google TV dongle is external, requiring an additional HDMI port and potentially complicating the setup process slightly. However, this approach allows for easy updates or replacements of the smart TV component without needing to replace the entire projector.
The inclusion of Wi-Fi 6 ensures fast and stable internet connectivity, which is crucial for smooth streaming. The Bluetooth 5.0 support allows for easy connection to external audio devices or controllers. I was also happy to see an Ethernet port. While this may not be high on the list of requirements for a portable projector, I try and avoid WiFi whenever possible for any device that streams content.
Image Quality
With a native 1080P resolution and brightness of 450 ANSI Lumens, it produces clear and vibrant images in various lighting conditions.
The projector’s ability to display images from 40″ to 120″ provides flexibility in different viewing environments. The 1.25:1 throw ratio allows for a good balance between image size and projection distance, making it suitable for both small rooms and larger outdoor spaces.
One of the standout features is the auto-focus and auto-keystone correction. These functions work well, quickly adjusting the image to provide a clear, properly aligned picture with minimal user intervention. The obstacle avoidance feature is particularly useful for outdoor use, automatically adjusting the image to avoid objects in the projection path.
The Yaber T2 Plus delivers impressive image quality for its class. You lack the detail you get from a power TV, and I would say the detail of the images isn’t quite as good as competing options, but the colour reproduction is generally good, with vivid hues and decent contrast.
Dim Light with Blinds Closed

Moderate Light with Two Blinds Open

Like many portable projectors, the T2 Plus may struggle in bright environments. For optimal viewing, a dimly lit or dark setting is recommended. However, I would say the performance in a room with moderate light was superior to that of more expensive options from Nebula, BenQ and XGIMI.
The LED light source used in the T2 Plus contributes to its long lifespan and energy efficiency. It also allows for instant on/off functionality, eliminating the need for warm-up or cool-down periods.
Sound Quality & Fan Noise
Audio performance is one of the stronger points of the Yaber T2 Plus. The inclusion of dual JBL speakers with Dolby Audio support sets it apart from many competitors in its price range.
The sound quality is impressive for a portable projector. The JBL speakers deliver clear, rich audio with good volume levels. The Dolby Audio support enhances the overall audio experience, providing depth and clarity to both dialogue and music.
The T2 Plus can also function as a standalone Bluetooth speaker, offering up to 18 hours of music playback. This versatility adds value to the device, making it useful even when not being used for video projection.
Fan noise is an important consideration for any projector, especially one designed for portability and close-quarter use. The T2 Plus performs reasonably well in this aspect. While not silent, the fan noise is generally unobtrusive during normal operation. The projector’s cooling system seems efficient, managing heat without excessive noise.
Battery
The built-in battery is a key feature of the Yaber T2 Plus, offering true portability. The projector provides approximately 2.5 hours of video playback on a single charge, which is sufficient for most movies or a few episodes of a TV series.
For music playback, the battery life extends to an impressive 18 hours, making the T2 Plus an excellent option for outdoor events or gatherings where a power source might not be readily available.
The charging time is reasonable, taking about 3.5 hours in standby mode or 5.5 hours when powered on. This allows for relatively quick recharging between uses.
While the 2.5-hour video playback time is adequate, it may be limiting for some users, especially for longer movie marathons or extended outdoor use. An option to connect an external power bank via USB-C could have been a useful addition for extending the battery life.
Price and Alternative Options

£399.99 | Buy on Amazon |
The Yaber T2 has an RRP of £399 and is available from Amazon UK.
The XGIMI Halo+ 1080P is priced at £620.
The standard Nebula Capsule 3 is just £430, but that only has 200 ANSI lumens, whereas the brighter Capsule 3 Laser is £630.
The Nebula Mars 3 Air is £460; it is not as bright, but unlike many other portable projectors, it has Netflix built in and can display it at the full 1080P resolution.
The best alternative is probably the XGIMI MoGo 2 Mini , which is available for just £300 and has Android TV 11 built-in. However, this lacks a battery, so if you want to use it as a portable projector, it needs to be paired with a power bank.
Verdict
The Yaber T2 Plus is an excellent, affordable portable. Its strengths lie in its impressive image quality, in particular the brightness, the excellent audio performance, and true portability, thanks to its built-in battery.
The 1080P resolution and 450 ANSI Lumens brightness deliver clear, vibrant images suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. The auto-focus and auto-keystone features work well, making setup quick and hassle-free.
The dual JBL speakers with Dolby Audio support are excellent, providing audio quality that surpasses many competitors in this price range. The ability to use the T2 Plus as a standalone Bluetooth speaker is a useful extra.
The inclusion of the Google TV dongle enhances the user experience, providing access to a wide range of streaming services and apps. However, some users might see the external nature of the dongle as a minor inconvenience. At the time of writing, the Plus model wasn’t available to buy, but you should consider the price difference if they are. An Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Max is a superior streaming stick I would prefer to use over the dongle Yaber includes.
Battery life is adequate for most use cases, though the 2.5-hour video playback time might be limiting for some scenarios. The 18-hour music playback time is impressive and adds value to the device. The main criticism I have for this is the lack of a USB-C port for power which would have allowed you to extend the battery life significantly.
The build quality and design of the T2 Plus are commendable, with thoughtful features like the rotating handle that doubles as a stand. The compact size and reasonable weight make it truly portable.
While the T2 Plus performs well in most areas, it’s not without its limitations. Like many portable projectors, it may struggle in very bright environments.
In terms of value, the Yaber T2 Plus holds its own against more expensive competitors, offering a balance of features and performance at a more accessible price point.
Overall, the Yaber T2 Plus is excellent and it gets an easy recommendation from me. It’s well-suited for users who prioritise audio quality, true portability, and a good balance of features at a reasonable price. While it may not match the absolute top-tier projectors in every aspect, it offers excellent value and performance for its price range, making it a worthy choice for both home and outdoor entertainment.
