Today, Twinkly announced its newest addition to its smart home lighting catalogue: Twinkly Candies.
Twinkly has traditionally been the go-to brand for smart Christmas lights, and I have previously reviewed the excellent Twinkly Strings Gold Edition. More recently, they have faced competition with the Philips Hue Festavia, and Hue recently announced its second generation of Festavia lights.
Twinkly Candies: Overview
Twinkly Candies aim to bring a little enchantment into various living spaces, from living rooms to children’s bedrooms and even gaming rooms. Available in four distinct shapes—Pearls, Stars, Candles, and Hearts—these USB-powered lights offer a variety of applications, be it for everyday home décor or seasonal celebrations.
Design and Customisation
One of the standout features of the Twinkly Candies is their design versatility. You can choose between 100 and 200 LED versions, depending on the extent of illumination you require. But what truly sets them apart is the level of customisation they offer.
Twinkly boasts that each LED is app-controlled and addressable. This means you can project an array of vibrant patterns, gradients, and animations. You’re not limited to a few preset options; rather, you have the freedom to get creative.
The Twinkly App: Bringing Your Vision to Life
Twinkly offers a free, dedicated app available for both iOS and Android platforms. The app allows you to personalise your lighting setup with a palette of 16 million colours. That’s not a hyperbole; you literally have millions of shades at your disposal.
Even more intriguing is the app’s compatibility with voice assistants. You can use Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, or Apple HomeKit to control your Twinkly Candies. This makes the product not just a decorative piece but also a functional component of a smart home ecosystem.
Exclusive Mapping Function
Perhaps one of the most intriguing features is Twinkly’s exclusive mapping function. It allows you to fine-tune your lighting arrangements to fit the specifics of the room or even the furniture around which the lights are strung. The technology essentially maps out the shape and arrangement of the lights, offering you an even greater level of control.
Portability and Pricing
Twinkly Candies are equipped with a USB Type-C power cable, emphasising their portable nature. This means you can easily move them around your home without much hassle.
As for the cost, Twinkly Candies are surprisingly affordable. The 100 LED version is priced at £49.99, and if you’re looking to go all out, the 200 LED version will set you back £69.99.
In comparison, the Philips Hue Festavia were priced at £139.99 RRP, and these have 250 RGB LEDs on a 20m/65ft cord.
Twinkly Generation 2 with 250 RGB lights on a 20M string have an RRP of £115.
Final Thoughts
The launch of Twinkly Candies adds another dimension to the ever-expanding market of smart home lighting solutions. With a wide range of shapes and unparalleled customisation options, they offer a robust solution for those looking to infuse their living spaces with a unique ambience. Yet, it’s the seamless integration into smart home ecosystems that could be the deciding factor for many potential buyers. While the pricing might not appeal to all, those who do invest will find themselves armed with a highly versatile lighting tool that can transform any space.
