Mediatek has announced its latest chipset. However, this time, it is not for mobile phones but specifically designed for tablets.
The chipset is clearly based around the latest flagship Dimensity 1200 design, using high-performance Arm Cortex A78 CPU cores and a nine-core Mali G77 GPU. How different it is to the smartphone counterpart remains unknown.
I think the most exciting part of this chipset is the fact that it opens the doors for new high performance but affordable Android tablets. The Android tablet industry has dwindled over the past few years, leaving Samsung as the only real option for high-end tablets such as the £600+ Galaxy Tab S7. Huawei is still in the game, but with no Google. You are then left with all the random Chinese brands using low to mid-range MediaTek chipsets.
It currently looks like Honor will be the first company to launch a tablet with the MediaTek Kompanio 1300T on the Honor V7 Pro, which should launch alongside the Magic3 on the 12th of August.
Key Features:

Specification
The briefing for the Kompanio 1300T was a little thin on details, and I will update the article when the full specification is confirmed.
At the moment, we know it is built on TSMC’s 6nm process technology and integrates an octa-core CPU with high-performance Arm Cortex-A78 cores and power-efficient Arm Cortex-A55 cores. In addition, its powerful nine-core Arm Mali-G77 MC9 GPU
I have assumed the CPU design is 1x3x4 similar to the Dimensity 1200, but it could be 4×4
- Fabrication Process: TSMC 6nm
- CPU
- 1x Arm Cortex A78
- 3x Arm Cortex A78
- 4x Arm Cortex A55
- GPU: Mali G77 MC9
- Memory: 4x LP4x 2133Mhz?
- APU: APU 3.0
- Modem: Helio M70?
MediaTek Kompanio 1300T vs Dimensity 1200 / 1100
With the limited specification provided during the briefing, there is currently no way to tell how the two chipsets will differ.
The Kompanio 1300T is clearly based on the Dimensity 1200 design (or 1100) it has the same CPU cores and nine core Mali-G77.
It is quite possible it will use higher frequency cores thanks to the superior cooling and battery a tablet-sized device can offer.
Tablets due to launch with Kompanio 1300T
Honor has shared a teaser of the Honor V7 Pro on Weibo, they have not mentioned the Kompanio 1300T, but Digital Chat Station said it would be using the Dimensity 1300T chipset (which we now know as the Kompanio 1300T).
The Honor V7 Pro should launch alongside the Magic3 series on the 12th of August.
Realme are also launching a tablet this year, with the imaginatively named Realme Pad. There have been no leaks about this using the Kompanio, but Realme has tagged it as a #FlagshipKiller2021 on Twitter, and I think the Kompanio 1300T would be the strongest chipset candidate by far.
