The Realme X50 Pro has finally been unveiled and Realme continues to be the most affordable brand on the market with prices that should be comfortably under the Xiaomi Mi 10 5G when they finally launch it in the UK.
However, with the introduction of the 5G Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chipset, the cost of the Realme flagship has gone up quite a bit compared to the previous Realme X2 Pro. So how do they compare and is it worth the upgrade?
Chipset, RAM and Storage
The Realme X50 Pro has launched with the newest chipset from Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 865 which should offer a significant performance boost over the Snapdragon 855+ you find on the Realme X2 Pro.
During the launch, Realme claimed the new phone scored over 600k on Antutu, and previous leaks have it scoring 574,989. The X2 Pro with 12GB RAM managed a score of 483,651 which puts the X50 Pro 19% higher than the X2 Pro.
The base configuration has also been upgraded, it is now 8GB/128GB vs 6GB/64GB and now the phone uses LPDDR5 RAM instead of the slower LPDDR4x, something the Sony Xperia 1 II can’t say.
The storage is also UFS3.0 for all models, whereas the X20 Pro used slower storage for its base model.
Connectivity
The Realme X50 Pro brings all the benefits the SD865 has to offer including the X55 5G modem, it will also have the new super-fast Wi-Fi 6.
The Realme X2 Pro was just 4G and had Wi-Fi 5.
Display
The display hasn’t changed too much, the new phone has a 6.44 inch AMOLED screen with a 90Hz refresh rate and 180Hz touch-sensing. It can go up to 1200nits of brightness, and the selfie camera is now a double punch-hole design vs the notch of the older model.
The X2 Pro has a fractionally larger display at 6.5 inches, it was also AMOLED and 9Hz but the touch sensing was lower as was the 1000 nits max brightness.
Camera
As far as hardware specs go, the rear cameras Realme X50 Pro looks worse than the previous generation, so we will have to wait and see what fancy tricks the software can do to make the most of it.

On the front things have improved considerably, with a dual-camera design featuring
- 32 MP, f/2.5, 26mm (wide), 1/2.8″, 0.8µm
- 8 MP, f/2.2, 17mm (ultrawide), 1/4.0″, 1.12µm
The X2 Pro had a single 16 MP f/2.0 lens.
Battery
There has been a small boost in battery with a 4200 mAh battery vs 4000mAH, and the new X50 Pro will be one of the fastest phones on the market at charging with a 65W SuperDart Flash Charge.
The X2 Pro had a 50W SuperVOOC Flash Charge, which was already ridiculously fast.
OS
It had been previously announced that Realme will customise ColorOS to be closer to stock, during the launch they announced this as realme UI 1.0, this will, of course, be based on Android 10.0 out of the box.
The X2 Pro is still on Android 9.0 (Pie) with a planned upgrade to Android 10.0, it is likely to stick with ColorOS.
Price
The Realme X2 Pro launched at an amazingly low price of 399-euros for the base model or 449-Euros for the 8GB/128GB and you can currently buy it from Amazon in the UK for £399.

So it is a little disappointing to see a 150-euro price hike with the Realme X50 Pro base model being 599-Euros.
While we haven’t seen a lot of flagship phones launched this year yet, the ones that have launched cost much more than previous models. This could be the additional cost of 5G, or at least it is an excuse to charge more.
