The Philips Sonicare brand is still the number 1 recommended sonic electric toothbrush brand by dental professionals worldwide and is typically one of two brands anyone uses when it comes to electronic toothbrushes.
Therefore, it was not surprising that Philips had a large section of their hall dedicated to their dental solutions.
Many people don’t take their dental health seriously enough, and as a result, it often leads to painful and expensive issues later down the line. Just going to the dental hygienist is unpleasant enough for me, I don’t particularly want to experience a root canal or other major treatments.
Philips Diamond CleanSmart
The flagship DiamondClean Smart toothbrush is the toothbrush that deserves the most attention; this has to be the most technologically advanced toothbrush on the market. You could argue it is a little excessive especially when you take into account the £360 price tag, but if it avoids an expensive procedure down the line, I would argue it is well worth it.
Philips has brought the world of smart devices to your toothbrush, and the Diamond CleanSmart pairs up with your phone and uses an app to guide you through the brushing process.
Sensors within the toothbrush feedback data to the app telling it if you are brushing with too much or too little pressure.
It also has a 3D mouth map and location sensors to track where you are brushing and for how long, providing you feedback on what areas need more attention. Many people have a tendency to neglect the very back of their mouth as it is difficult to get to and not always very comfortable, so this feature can ensure all your teeth get correctly brushed.
You can select multiple brushing modes for optimal performance which not only includes settings for your teeth as well as your gums and tongue. Another area many people neglect is their gums, and it is recommended that your bush around them to avoid issues with gingivitis.
You no longer need to worry about when to change your toothbrush head, or if like me completely neglect changing it frequently. Philips is now introducing a new automated brush head reordering service. This new service is enabled by the BrushSync technology integrated into Philips smart brush heads and handles. It orders new brush heads when needed, based on the actual user brushing usage. These will be delivered right to their door when it is the optimal time to replace them.
All this technology is wrapped up in a beautiful package, and the charging stand is a sleek glass holder that will charge your toothbrush as soon as you place it inside. You can even take the toothbrush with you when you travel thanks to the travel case which doubles up as a charger.
The DiamondClean is available from many UK retailers for around £360

Sonicare Teledentistry Solutions
Complimenting the Diamond CleanSmart, Philips has announced the Sonicare Teledentistry Solutions.
This new service enables professional, remote dental consultations All users need to do is take one to six pictures of their teeth and gums with their smartphone, send them off via the Philips Sonicare app, and they will receive the results of a teleconsultation within 24 hours. The Philips Sonicare app acts as a ‘virtual hub’ for personal oral healthcare helping users to manage their complete oral care on a daily basis and share brushing data with their dental practitioners, putting personalised guidance and advice at their fingertips.
It is a fascinating concept, but I think its usefulness is dependant on pricing and the particular dental services provided where you live. For example, in the UK if you are on Denplan or are with an NHS dentist, it may not be a cost-efficient service, but if you are not with either of these and maybe you have never been to the dentist, it could provide some useful insight without the fear of visiting a dentist.
Philips Sonicare AirFloss
While not a new product the Sonicare AirFloss is worth a mention, many Dentists say that flossing is just as important as brushing your teeth, but the process of flossing is not very pleasant or easy dependant on your teeth. Therefore, the AirFloss is an excellent option as it simplifies and speeds up the process while being less uncomfortable. The concept is simple; it shoots air and a small amount of water through the gaps in your teeth cleaning and dislodging anything that is stuck down between them.
