Huawei MatePad Pro 5G is a rare flagship grade Android tablet to compete with Samsung Galaxy Tab S6

Sharing is caring!

Guess how many flagship spec Android tablets there are? Until today, just one, the Samsung Samsung Galaxy Tab S6. In fact, barely any brand other than Huawei and Samsung even bother with tablets anymore. Which is a strange situation, when mobile chipsets and the Android OS are so powerful they can easily replicate most of the functions a laptop does, and Apple iPads still sell like hotcakes.

Anyway, if you want a tablet with the best spec possible, your options have now doubled, with the launch of the new MatePad Pro 5G. Technically it isn't that new, because they already launched the 4G version in China back in November, but now it has been upgraded to the slightly faster HiSilicon Kirin 990 5G, which, as the name suggests, also has a 5G modem.

The new Kirin 990 5G chipset should give the tablet enough oomph to be able to outperform the Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 which uses the slower Snapdragon 855 which launched on phones this time last year.

The tablet then has a 10.8-inch sAMOLED display running at 2560×1600 resolution at a pixel density of 280ppi and is capable of fully displaying the DCI-P3 cinematic colour gamut at 540 nits brightness and 1500:1 contrast ratio,

Base models starting at 6GB/128GB going up to 8GB and 512GB. You can also upgrade the storage with Huawei's proprietary Nano memory cards.

The tablet has two basic cameras with 13MP on the rear and 8MP on the front.

For Wi-Fi, it seems to only do up to Wi-Fi 5, even though they just announced a router that can do Wi-Fi 6+.

You get a healthy 7250 mAh which should keep you working for well over a day and it can then quickly be charged via the 40W SuperCharge and it also supports wireless charging and reverse wireless charging.

Huawei is launching the MatePad Pro with two main accessories: The keyboard case, as well as the pencil.

The M-Pencil charges wirelessly and is attached magnetically to the top side of the MatePad Pro, with total battery life of up to 10h and charging times of 1h to full capacity, or 30s charging for 10 minutes of usage. Huawei advertises very low latency input lag of as low as 20ms and pressure sensitivity of up to 4096 levels.

Both the keyboard case and the M-Pencil are separately bought accessories for the MatePad Pro.

Just like all other new Huawei and Honor devices, this will lack Google Play Service, but it does have HMS (Huawei Mobile Services) which includes their own AppGallery with many popular apps, plus the option to use many other third-party app stores.

While the tablet has a 5G chipset inside, there will be variants going from Wi-Fi only, LTE and finally 5G.
