GameSir G7 Pro Tri-Mode Controller Features

The GameSir G7 Pro is a wired and wireless controller designed for use with Xbox consoles, PCs, and Android devices. It builds on the design of the original G7 controller series, with upgraded components and enhanced connectivity aimed at offering reliable, precise, and customisable control across multiple platforms.
Compatibility and Connectivity
The G7 Pro is designed for broad platform support:
- Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One: Wired connection
- PC (Windows and Steam): 2.4GHz wireless and USB-C wired connection
- Android: Bluetooth connectivity
A physical mode switch allows users to switch easily between connection types. The included cable retainer improves wired connection stability, and the controller automatically powers off after 10 minutes of inactivity when in 2.4G or Bluetooth mode.
Control Technology
Sticks – GameSir Mag-Res TMR
The analogue sticks use GameSir’s Mag-Res™ TMR technology, combining traditional potentiometer precision with Hall Effect durability. This design reduces stick drift and ensures smoother, more stable input over time.
Triggers – Hall Effect with Micro Switch Stops
The analogue triggers use Hall Effect sensors for accurate, linear input. They include mechanical switch stops that provide a tactile, “clicky” feel and can be toggled via Hair Trigger Mode for faster response in gameplay. This mode is activated by holding the M button and the respective trigger (LT or RT).
Buttons
- ABXY: Optical Micro Switches for consistent and tactile input
- D-pad: Mechanical Micro Switch design for enhanced feedback
- Additional Buttons: Two mini bumpers (R5/L5) and two lockable back buttons (R4/L4) can be programmed for macros or remapped as needed
Customisation
Swappable Faceplate
The controller includes a three-part magnetic faceplate, which can be swapped for personalisation. It is compatible with faceplates from earlier G7 models, but the G7 Pro’s faceplate is not backward-compatible with other G7 variants (G7, G7 SE, G7 HE).
Interchangeable D-pad
Two alternative D-pads are included, allowing the user to adjust the feel and shape to suit their preference.
Audio and Communication
- 3.5mm Headphone Jack: Supported on both wired and 2.4GHz wireless connections, allowing for headset use without additional accessories
- Volume Adjustment:
- Hold the M button + D-pad up/down to adjust system volume
- Hold the M button + D-pad left/right to adjust the balance between game and chat audio
- Mute function is available via a dedicated mute button
Motion Control
The controller includes a gyroscope for motion-based input, which can be mapped to other input types such as sticks or mouse control. This feature is only available when using the controller with a PC.
Haptic Feedback
Four rumble motors—one in each grip and one in each trigger—deliver realistic haptic feedback. This multi-motor configuration helps simulate impact, driving forces, and in-game effects more precisely.
Polling Rate and Performance
On PC, the G7 Pro supports a 1000Hz polling rate over both wired and 2.4GHz wireless modes. This low-latency design ensures quick response times suitable for competitive play.
Software Integration
The controller is compatible with the GameSir Nexus software (Windows only), which allows extensive customisation options:
- Gyro mapping and sensitivity settings
- Stick curve adjustments
- Button remapping and macro recording
- Button-to-mouse functionality
Design / Build Quality

The GameSir G7 Pro adopts a familiar Xbox-style layout with several design refinements that distinguish it from standard controllers. The build quality feels solid with a weight of 272g that provides substance without being overly heavy during extended gaming sessions.

The controller features rubberised grips that provide adequate texture for secure handling, though they may not suit all hand sizes equally. The magnetic faceplate system works effectively, with strong magnets ensuring the components stay securely attached during normal use. The three-part design allows for customisation whilst maintaining structural integrity.
Button placement follows conventional Xbox controller standards, making the transition comfortable for existing Xbox users. The additional mini bumpers (R5/L5) are positioned logically and don’t interfere with standard gameplay when not in use. The back buttons (R4/L4) include latches that can disable them when necessary, addressing concerns about accidental activation.
The charging station provides a convenient storage and charging solution, though it adds to the overall footprint of the controller setup. The magnetic connection works reliably, and the station includes storage for the 2.4GHz receiver when not in use.
Material quality appears suitable for regular use, though long-term durability will depend on usage patterns and care. The optical switches and Hall Effect sensors should provide extended operational life compared to mechanical alternatives.
Set Up / GameSir Nexus Software / Customisation
Initial setup varies depending on the intended platform. For Xbox gaming, the process is straightforward – connect the USB-C cable and press the Xbox button to power on. The console recognises the controller immediately without additional configuration.
PC setup offers more complexity with both wired and wireless options. Wired connection requires only the USB-C cable, whilst wireless setup involves inserting the included 2.4GHz receiver and switching the controller to the appropriate mode. The controller automatically connects to previously paired devices, simplifying subsequent use.
Android setup uses standard Bluetooth pairing through the device’s settings menu. The controller appears as “GameSir-G7 Pro” in the available devices list.
The GameSir Nexus software provides the primary customisation interface for PC users. The application allows comprehensive button remapping, macro recording, and profile management. Gyroscope settings can be adjusted for compatible games, and stick response curves can be modified to suit different gaming genres.
Software stability appears adequate, though the interface could benefit from refinement. Some advanced features require experimentation to understand fully, and documentation could be more comprehensive. Profile switching works effectively once configured, allowing quick changes between different game setups.
Firmware updates are handled through the software, though the process requires careful attention to avoid issues. The update procedure involves specific steps for both the controller and receiver, and following the instructions precisely is essential.
Performance: Gaming on a PC

PC gaming represents the G7 Pro’s strongest use case, with full access to wireless connectivity, 1000Hz polling rate, and complete software customisation. The 2.4GHz wireless connection proves reliable with minimal latency in typical gaming scenarios.
The 1000Hz polling rate provides responsive input registration, though the practical benefits vary by game type. Fast-paced competitive games may show slight improvements in responsiveness, whilst slower-paced titles show less noticeable difference. The wireless implementation maintains this polling rate effectively, which is commendable given the technical challenges involved.
TMR stick performance feels smooth and precise during testing. The reduced dead zones and consistent tracking work well for both precision aiming and general navigation. Stick drift was not observed during the review period, though long-term performance will determine the true effectiveness of the TMR technology.
The Hall Effect triggers provide smooth, linear response across their travel range. The micro switch stops work as advertised, offering quick trigger actuation when enabled. The transition between modes is immediate and the tactile feedback is distinct.
Button response from the optical micro switches feels crisp and consistent. The D-pad provides solid feedback for directional inputs, though personal preference will determine whether users prefer the included alternatives.
The gyroscope functionality works adequately when properly configured, though it requires significant adjustment to feel natural. This feature will appeal to specific gaming scenarios rather than general use.
Audio performance through the 3.5mm jack is clear on both wired and wireless connections. The volume controls work effectively, and the mute function provides convenient audio management during gaming sessions.
Performance: Gaming on Android
Android compatibility extends the G7 Pro’s utility to mobile gaming scenarios. Bluetooth connection proves stable once established, though initial pairing occasionally requires multiple attempts. The controller maintains connection reliably during gameplay.
Button mapping support varies by game and Android version. Many modern games recognise the controller automatically, whilst older titles may require additional configuration or third-party mapping software. The Xbox-style layout translates well to games designed with controller support in mind.
Battery life during Android gaming appears adequate, though exact duration depends on usage patterns and connected features. The controller provides low battery warnings through LED indicators.
Performance varies significantly depending on the specific Android device and game being played. Modern flagship smartphones generally provide smooth operation, whilst older or budget devices may experience occasional connectivity issues or input lag.
Battery Life
The built-in 1200mAh battery provides reasonable operational time for wireless gaming sessions. Actual battery life depends on several factors including connection type, rumble usage, and LED brightness settings.
During testing with moderate rumble settings and standard LED brightness, the controller typically provided 8-12 hours of continuous use via 2.4GHz wireless connection. Bluetooth usage showed slightly longer battery life due to the different connection protocol and power requirements.
The included charging station offers convenient charging when not in use. The magnetic connection works reliably, and the auto start-stop functionality prevents overcharging. Charging time from empty to full typically requires 2-3 hours.
Battery indicators through the Xbox button LED provide adequate warning of low charge levels. The controller provides sufficient notice to complete gaming sessions or switch to wired mode when necessary.
The charging station includes receiver storage, adding practical value beyond basic charging functionality. The overall charging solution feels well-designed and user-friendly.
Price and Alternative Options
The GameSir G7 Pro has launched for $79.99 or £89 in the UK.
The GameSir G7 HE is £60 and the G7 SE is £50
The GameSir Cyclone 2 is available for £56, which is similar to tri-mode connectivity and a base station, but doesn’t officially support the Xbox.
Then they also have the Super Nova Wireless Gaming Controller, which is similar to the Cyclone 2 and is available for £50
The ManbaOne has similar features and also has an interactive display to make controlling the functions easier. This is available for just £70
The official Xbox Wireless Controller has an RRP of £60 but is generally available for around £50.
The Xbox Elite Bluetooth Wireless Controller supports Android and iOS via Bluetooth and is available for £100. Annoyingly, if you want to use wireless, but not Bluetooth, on the PC, you need to buy the Xbox wireless adaptor separately.
Overall
While the £90 price tag is a significant investment for a controller, it’s hard to fault the GameSir G7 Pro due to the numerous advanced features and wide range of compatibility it offers.
This is designed for serious gamers, not necessarily competitive gamers, but if you dedicate a significant amount of time to gaming, then you will appreciate the advanced features, such as hall effect triggers and optical micro switches. They are a bit wasted on someone like me, who only plays a few hours per week.
Few controllers compare to this in terms of features, compatibility and price. Big-name brands tend to be substantially more expensive, especially if you look at the Xbox Elite Bluetooth Wireless Controller. I have not used the ManbaOne, and it initially looks more appealing, but it lacks Xbox support.
Overall, for serious gamers who game across multiple platforms and appreciate advanced customisation options, the G7 Pro provides a solid foundation. The advanced control technologies work effectively, and the overall package delivers on its primary promises. However, casual users or those focused on single-platform gaming may find better value in simpler alternatives.
