I reviewed the GameSir T4 Kaleid back in May, which featured Hall Effect sticks and was designed for the PC and Nintendo Switch.
GameSir is expanding the implementation of Hall Effect sticks to some of their other popular controller models, and the GameSir G7 SE is the latest controller to feature the upgrade.
The GameSir G7 SE is basically the same as the well-reviewed G7 that has been out for the past six months or so, but the analogue sticks now are upgraded to hall-effect sticks which reduces stick drift and prologues the lifespan of the controller.
GameSir claims that Hall Effect sticks on the GameSir G7 SE offer a lifetime of accuracy and responsiveness.

Xbox Controller With Hall Effect Sticks & Triggers
The Hall Effect sticks on the GameSir G7 SE offer a lifetime of accuracy and responsiveness.
By using non-contact magnetic sensors, the sticks never wear down in their lifetime, preventing drift and unwanted movement in games.
They achieve this by using magnets in them that move in relative to an electrical conductor. The voltage change that then occurs is converted to positional data to track the sticks movements. This, therefore, avoids the component wear and tear of an analogue stick and, in theory, should never drift problems.
The enhanced sensitivity of the sticks allows for pinpoint control, giving you a competitive edge, especially in FPS games.
They have implemented the same technology into the analogue triggers. These triggers provide the utmost accuracy and responsiveness, making every trigger pull feel natural and precise. With a 0.1mm accuracy, players can enjoy a heightened level of control over their in-game actions, whether it’s firing a weapon or accelerating the car.
Design / Build
The G7 SE is an attractive-looking controller that is more minimalist than the GameSir T4 Kaleid I reviewed recently.
The magnetic faceplate has a matte effect finish, so it feels less slimy than smoother controllers when my hands get hot and sweaty.
While the faceplate is swappable, the controller doesn’t come with any spare plates as stock, which is a little disappointing. If you order from Gamesir, there is an option for an additional White or Black faceplate, which costs an extra $5.
The grips are textured without any rubber, and I had no issues with this myself.
On the rear of the controller, you have the two back buttons but also two switches which can lock the button, preventing any miss-presses.
On the face of the controller, there is a memory button which can be used to switch between the four available profiles. It can also be used in conjunction with the D-pad to control headset volume and audio balancing.
Gamesir Nexus App Customisations
Like many of the Gamesir controllers, you can customise the settings of this controller. Using the Gamesir Nexus App, you can customise:
- Button Mapping
- Stick range
- Trigger Range
- Vibration
In Use
This is a nice lightweight and well-made controller that I found comfortable to use while playing for a few hours at a time.
I game quite a bit, but I’d regard myself as casual, and I think the performance benefits of the Hall Effect sticks are a bit lost on me, but they should, in theory, improve performance for competitive play. Gamesir states that this has a 0.5% circularity error which is significantly lower than most competing controllers and should improve consistency with in-game movement.
The long-term benefits of the Hall Effect sticks are obviously a big selling point, stick drift is annoying, and I don’t want to replace my controller every few years.
With the magnetic faceplate, if you press firmly down on the plate and upward, it shifts ever so slightly and makes a clicking noise. I only noticed this when first inserting the USB cable, and I can’t think of a situation where this might happen in gameplay, but I thought it was worth highlighting just in case you have some sort of death-grip hold of the controller.
One issue some gamers may have is that the GameSir G7 SE uses membrane face buttons rather than the clicky buttons on the older G7. I am personally indifferent to this, but I can appreciate why people have a preference to clicky.
Gamesir says that the membrane buttons have embedded support brackets, which prevents over-compression to extend lifespan, meanwhile optimizing travel and force consistency.
The trigger buttons feel good to press. Again, I don’t notice a huge difference, but it is a nice feature to have.
Unlike the stock Xbox controller, this has a cross-design D-pad which is a design I prefer, and I found this was nice and responsive.
I like the inclusion of the locks on the back, as I find I rarely use these buttons in a lot of games. With the lock in place, the buttons don’t press down at all.

As far as I am aware, there are no other Xbox controllers with Hall Effect sticks, which is the main selling point of this controller.
The older G7 is listed on Amazon at £45

Overall
Like most of the Gamsir controllers, this is superb and an excellent alternative to the stock controller.
I have not used the GameSir G7, so I can’t really compare it against that. I’d say it is a little disappointing that they have ditched the clicky buttons in favour of membrane. The GameSir G7 is a popular controller that is universally well-reviewed, I would imagine a lot of G7 owners would have been tempted to upgrade to this for the Hall Effect sticks.
I would have thought gamers would have been happy to pay a bit extra for a special edition controller and have both Hell Effect sticks and clicky buttons. That being said, I don’t personally mind the membrane buttons.
Overall, I can happily recommend this controller.
