The Xiaomi Mi 8 was hugely popular earlier this year offering flagship specifications for mid-range pricing. Since then the Pocophone F1 has stolen some of its thunder with its sub-£300 price point.
However, Xiaomi has recently announced the Pro version which has one notable upgraded typically found on my more expensive phones, an in-display fingerprint sensor.
The Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro features a 6.21-inch notch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 2248 x 1080 pixels giving you an aspect ratio of 18.7.9 and an 88.5% screen to body ratio.
The phone comes with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 octa-core CPU clocked at 2.8GHz, which is the same as the normal model. There are 6GB or 8GB of RAM options with 128GB of internal storage — unfortunately, external storage expansion is not supported. The Mi 8 standard model had storage options starting at 64GB.
On the camera side, the Mi 8 Pro comes with dual 12MP+12MP rear camera combo sporting Sony IMX363 sensors with 1.4μm unit pixel area. On the front, there is the 20MP selfie cam equipped with Xiaomi’s signature beautifying functionality. The 20MP camera is also capable of IR face unlock
The original Mi 8 was the first ever smartphone equipped with dual-frequency GPS. By using both L1 and L5 signals in coordination, accuracy is improved to unprecedented levels. This feature is also available on the newly announced Mate 20 series.
It is worth noting that the battery appears to have been reduced in size and it now just 3000mAh.
If you are looking to pick up a flagship phone with an in-display fingerprint scanner than this is the most affordable option on the market, but what are the cheapest options in the UK right now?
Currently, all options are for pre-order but shipping should start for the end of October.
The best prices for UK buyers:
- Honor Buy – €439.99 / £388.89 shipping from EU warehouse.
- Wonda Mobile – £413.00 (Chinese Version with Google Play; English display.)
- Banggood – £421.50
