Yesterday, Google announced the new, much-anticipated Pixel 7 series. The launch is a bit underwhelming, especially when you consider the significant upgrades the Pixel 6 series launched with.

The Pixel 7 series is almost identical to the previous generation, apart from the new Google Tensor G2. Even the chipset itself hasn’t changed much, and early Tensor G2 benchmarks put it well behind the competition.

However, much like Apple, Google isn’t all about the specs. It is the user experience that is important, and we will have to wait for reviews to find out what that is like. I have the Pixel 6, and I hope they have improved the fingerprint scanner considerably; I wish they would roll out face unlock as well.

You can pre-order the phones now and deliveries should be from the 12th of October.

Will a Pixel 6 case fit the Pixel 7?

If you already own a Pixel 6 Pro or 6, and with some phone cases costing £30+, you may be wondering if your existing case will fit the new phone. The phones are very similar, after all.

Just like the iPhone 14 series launch, even though the design is almost identical, there are small differences in the dimensions:

The two none-Pro Pixel phone dimensions are:

  • Pixel 7: 155.6 x 73.2 x 8.7 mm (6.13 x 2.88 x 0.34 in)
  • Pixel 6: 158.6 x 74.8 x 8.9 mm (6.24 x 2.94 x 0.35 in)

The Pixel 7 is quite a bit smaller than the older phone, being 3mm shorter. You should be able to physically put the Pixel 7 in a Pixel 6 case, but it is going to be very baggy to the point of falling off.

You also have the big camera bump, which I assume won’t align properly with cases.

Spigen has also confirmed to me that the cases do not fit.

Will a Pixel 6 Pro case fit the Pixel 7 Pro?

The Pixel 7 Pro vs 6 Pro dimensions are:

  • Pixel 7 Pro : 163.9 x 75.9 x 8.9 mm (6.45 x 2.99 x 0.35 in)
  • Pixel 6 Pro: 162.9 x 76.6 x 8.9 mm (6.41 x 3.02 x 0.35 in)

These two phones are a bit closer in shape, but in this case, the Pixel 7 Pro is 1mm taller, which will likely mean you can’t squeeze your phone in there.

Best Cases for Pixel 7 / Pro

As always with big brand name phone launches, many companies have launched their cases in conjunction with the phone launch.

There are a lot of options on Amazon already, and most of them are affordable and available for delivery before the phone arrives.

Spigen Pixel Phone Cases

Spigen Hybrid Pixel 7 Case

I have been a fan of Spigen for a few years now. They have a good balance of price and quality. I haven’t smashed a phone screen since using these cases, which is why I keep coming back to them.

I am a fan of the Tough Armor cases, as these provide an excellent level of protection. The Rugged Armor is a touch cheaper and a bit less bulky.

The Spigen Ultra Hybrid is ideal if you want to retain the overall look of the phone. The Hazel Pixel 7 Pro looks quite attractive to me, so I’d be inclined to get this clear case for that phone.

If you need a bit more protection, there is the Hybrid Ultra which adds thicker black bumpers.

I am less convinced about the Spigen Slim Armor CS, which acts as a card wallet. My only issue with this is that it will prevent wireless charging.

Caseology Pixel Phone Case

I haven’t used a Caseology case myself yet. But, I am quite fond of the Caseology Parallax with its textured matte and Hexa cube design. It is definitely more attractive than the Spigen cases if you are not going with an all-clear case.

Ringke Pixel 7 Series Cases

I ended up with a Ringke case last year as the Spigen case didn’t arrive on time, and I found that the Ringke case provided similar quality at a lower price. They have quite a few cases, but currently, it looks like just two options each for the new Pixel 7 series. I can vouch for the clear cases

Pixel 7 Screen Protectors

Spigen AlignMaster Pixel 7 Screen Protector

Within a couple of weeks of owning my Pixel 6, I had a small surface scratch on the screen. Not enough to affect day-to-day use, but I was concerned about getting more of them and significantly reducing resale value. I, therefore, bought a screen protector, and I would say they are a good investment.

I used Spogen protectors, and the AlignMaster model was very easy to apply. They also do a flexible plastic screen protector.
