I previously reviewed the excellent Acer Predator Connect W6 Wi-Fi 6E router, and at CES, Acer has announced its follow-up, which incorporates the latest Wi-Fi 7 technology. Wi-Fi 7 is a significant upgrade from Wi-Fi 6/6E, in my recent review of the Netgear Nighthawk RS700S I was able to achieve speeds of up to 3530Mbps, which is a 130% increase in throughput compared to what I previously experienced with WiFi 6E.
Acer has announced two new products, the Predator Connect T7 Wi-Fi 7 Mesh Router and the Predator Connect X7 which is a Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) router with a built-in 5G modem similar to the Zyxel Nebula FWA510 I recently reviewed.
A detailed specification of both devices wasn’t made available in the press release.
Wi-Fi 7 and 5G Bring Unprecedented Speeds
The Predator Connect X7 5G CPE combines the capabilities of 5G and Wi-Fi 7 to offer extremely fast throughput of over 10Gbps. This includes 3.5Gbps over 5G and 7Gbps over Wi-Fi 7. Latency is also reduced to an incredible 1ms.
The Predator Connect T7 utilises Wi-Fi 7 alone but still manages to achieve a combined throughput of over 10Gbps across tri-band connections. It can also be set up as a mesh system for wider home coverage.
Both routers are powered by Qualcomm’s new quad-core processors and Immersive Home Platform. This enables advanced features like better MU-MIMO, OFDMA, and spectrum utilization across connected devices.
Enhanced Network Resilience
A key highlight of the Predator Connect X7 5G CPE is its dual WAN connectivity through 5G and ethernet. The router can intelligently load balance and failover between the two connections to minimize disruption.
The T7 router supports Qualcomm’s Multi-Link Mesh technology allowing multiple access points to work in unison as a unified network. This increases overall throughput and reliability.
Optimized for Low Latency Gaming
The new Predator routers are compatible with software like the Intel Killer Prioritization Engine that can detect gaming traffic and prioritize it accordingly. Multi-Link Operations in Wi-Fi 7 further help to reduce latency and lag.
Gamers can easily monitor network performance through the Predator Connect app and the RGB lighting indicators on the router. There is also built-in network security from Trend Micro.
Empowering Next-Gen Gameplay
In a statement, Acer’s General Manager Wayne Ma said, “Thanks to Qualcomm’s Immersive Home Platform and quad-core processors, the new Predator routers bring next-level performance and speed output to a wider range of players and gaming environments.”
Qualcomm SVP Rahul Patel added, “Together, these are essential technologies for next-gen gaming and will thrill users with their immersive and responsive gaming experiences.”
The Predator Connect X7 and T7 Wi-Fi 7 gaming routers highlight the continued push towards 5G and Wi-Fi 7 connectivity. With their high speeds, low latency, and gaming-centric features, they seem poised to empower the next generation of cloud gaming and virtual reality.
Pricing and availability details remain unclear. But the routers will likely appeal most to gaming enthusiasts who want the absolute best networking performance.
