Features
Auto-Tracking Functionality
The XbotGo Chameleon utilises dual cameras and advanced AI technology to provide auto-tracking for over 20 sports. This feature allows the device to follow the action automatically, ensuring that users don’t miss crucial moments during their sporting events. The system’s ability to track movement without user input is particularly useful for solo athletes or coaches who want to analyse team performance.
Precise Key Player Tracking
One of the standout features of the XbotGo Chameleon is its ability to track specific players. The AI-powered system can identify athletes based on their appearance, body shape, and jersey number, among other factors. This precision tracking is valuable for coaches and analysts who need to focus on particular players during a game or training session.
Versatile Scene Tracking
The XbotGo Chameleon adapts to various sports environments, making it suitable for a range of activities. Whether you’re recording a fast-paced football match or a more controlled tennis game, the device adjusts its tracking to suit the sport. This versatility extends the Chameleon’s usefulness across different sporting disciplines.
XbotGo App Enhancements
The accompanying XbotGo app adds several features to enhance the user experience. One notable function is the auto-highlight generation, which automatically creates exciting clips from your footage. This saves time for users who want to share the best moments of their games without manually editing hours of video.
The app also facilitates live streaming, allowing users to broadcast their sporting events in real-time without additional monthly fees. This feature is particularly useful for teams or clubs that want to share games with supporters who can’t attend in person.
Superior Video Quality
The XbotGo Chameleon supports video recording up to 4K resolution. This high-quality output ensures that every detail of the game is captured clearly, which is essential for post-game analysis or creating professional-looking highlight reels.
Extended Battery Life
With a battery life of up to 8 hours, the XbotGo Chameleon can record entire tournaments or training sessions without needing a recharge. This long-lasting performance is a significant advantage for users who need to capture extended periods of action.
Design
The design of the XbotGo Chameleon AI is compact and relatively lightweight, with a rugged style. The Pearl Grey, Lava Graphite, and Lemon Green colour options provide variety, while the build quality delivers a premium feel. The mount itself is sturdy enough to withstand typical sports environments without being cumbersome, and its compact size allows for easy portability.
The remote is basic but functional, though some people may want something a bit richer in features.
The unit has a built-in 7500 mAh battery, which provides up to eight hours of continuous use—a practical feature for day-long events or multiple game sessions. However, charging the device takes approximately 3.5 hours, which might be too long if you need to use it multiple times in one day.
Set-Up
Setting up the XbotGo Chameleon is straightforward, even for users without much technical experience. The mount can be easily attached, and its adjustable roll and pan angles make positioning the camera intuitive.
The phone sits in the top mount section, and this can be tightened to clamp it in place. I have the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra inside a case and had no problems at all with the fit. It is possible that some phones with very thick cases, such as the Rokform Rugged Pixel 8 Pro MagSafe Case, maybe too thick for the mount.
The XbotGo Chameleon also comes with a USB-C charging cable, making it compatible with modern charging solutions. The overall setup is easy to manage, with minimal instructions required.
The XbotGo app is relatively easy to use and pairs with the Chameleon easily. It provides a walkthrough of its features and most of the controls are intuitive.
Sports Tracking Performance

The Chameleon boasts dual cameras and advanced AI technology, which provide precise tracking across a wide range of sports. With the AI system capable of following over 20 different activities, the device is particularly versatile. However, at the time of this review, the software only officially supports a limited number of sports, including soccer, basketball, tennis, and unexpectedly, broomball. The absence of support for popular sports such as golf—which is still in development—is a notable limitation for some users.
The AI provides “key player tracking,” identifying individuals based on attributes such as body shape, jersey number, and other appearance details. This is a significant benefit for team sports, allowing coaches and parents to follow specific players throughout a match.
For individual sports and fitness activities, the “Follow Me” mode is effective, providing a 360-degree panoramic tracking feature that ensures the user remains in frame during practice.
This is the feature I used the most as I am not much of a team sports player. I do, however, spend a lot of time in the gym, weightlifting and indoor cycling. I am not particularly interested in streaming my fitness online, but I find recording activities useful to monitor my form as I have had a lot of repetitive injuries.
This mode provides mostly reliable tracking in both indoor and outdoor environments. However, users should be cautious of rapid, erratic movements, which sometimes confuse the AI and result in loss of tracking momentarily.
One downside I noted during testing is that while the AI’s tracking is mostly accurate, there are occasional instances where it fails to correctly adjust to very fast-paced action, especially when multiple players are moving in different directions. It is not a consistent issue but does affect footage quality in dynamic sports like basketball.
360° Panorama
The XbotGo Chameleon comes equipped with a 360° rotation capability, which allows users to capture the action without blind spots. This panoramic feature makes it an excellent tool for large field games or group activities. The tracking ability extends beyond simply following motion; the Chameleon’s software allows it to interpret the sports environment and adjust accordingly, ensuring a fluid capture of the event.
However, the ultra-wide-angle lens used for this tracking purpose does not record video. Instead, it provides additional environmental analysis to help the AI decide how to best adjust the camera. This setup may cause confusion among some users, as the expectation might be that the wide-angle footage itself is available for playback.
Live Streaming
One of the Chameleon’s standout features is its live streaming capability, allowing users to broadcast directly through platforms like YouTube or Facebook. The system uses RTMP to connect, offering flexibility to stream via other supported services as well. This feature is particularly useful for family members or friends who are unable to attend events in person, providing a convenient way to keep them engaged with real-time footage.
The XbotGo app is relatively easy to use for setting up streams, though the reliance on a stable internet connection is a potential limiting factor. The integration with social media is well-executed, making the entire process user-friendly. The lack of a monthly fee for cloud storage is a plus, but the 20 GB limit may require users to frequently manage their storage if they regularly capture or stream content in high resolution.
AI-Enhanced Video Editing
The XbotGo app also allows users to enhance their recordings through AI-assisted editing features. The “auto-highlight generation” tool stands out as it automatically compiles key moments into a single video, which is convenient for those wanting to share highlights without having to edit manually.
While this feature is useful, it has its limitations. The lack of fine-tuning options in the AI highlight selection means that it might miss moments that users consider essential or include clips that are less impressive. It is a practical starting point, but for polished content, users may still need to make manual edits.
Additionally, the inability to remove the watermark or timestamp during editing is a disadvantage. Users seeking professional-looking footage may find this to be an annoyance. The company could easily address this issue in future updates to provide more flexibility for different use cases.
Video Quality
The Chameleon delivers video quality up to 4K resolution, allowing for crisp and detailed footage of sports events. Users have the option of recording in 720p, 1080p, or 4K, which provides flexibility based on the available storage and specific needs of the activity. The recent update allowing for 4K at 60 frames per second is a welcome improvement, especially for those seeking smooth, high-quality motion capture.
However, filming an entire game in 4K will take up a significant amount of memory, and users need to be mindful of this limitation if they plan on long recordings. For shorter clips, the quality is excellent, but the trade-off in storage requirements may make 1080p a more practical choice for many.
The Chameleon does not record using its ultra-wide-angle lens, which could be a disappointment for some users expecting an expansive field of view in the final footage. Instead, it relies on the user’s phone camera for recording. The AI analysis uses the secondary lens only for enhancing tracking performance.
Battery Life
The 7500 mAh battery provides up to eight hours of use, which is sufficient for most sporting events. This extended battery life is one of the Chameleon’s strong points, as users don’t have to worry about the device losing power halfway through an event. However, the relatively long charging time of around 3.5 hours could become an inconvenience if quick turnaround usage is required.
Price and Alternative Options
The XbotGo Chameleon Sports Tracking AI Cameraman can be bought directly from XbotGo. At the time of writing, the standard bundle, which includes a remote control, was listed at £349 RRP but is now available for £319.

Conclusion
The XbotGo Chameleon AI Sports Tracking System is a well-rounded product for anyone interested in recording sports events. It brings together advanced AI capabilities, impressive tracking options, and practical features like live streaming and auto-highlight editing. Its design, ease of setup, and video quality make it a good choice for users who want an automated way to capture sporting events.
However, there are some limitations that should be considered. The lack of support for some popular sports, the inability to remove watermarks, occasional tracking issues, and the long charging time are all areas for potential improvement. Despite these shortcomings, the Chameleon’s strengths—such as its robust tracking system, battery life, and AI editing—make it a great tool for athletes, coaches, and parents looking to capture and share sports moments with ease.
For those seeking a versatile sports tracking device that handles the basics well and offers a range of advanced features, the XbotGo Chameleon is worth considering. It might not be the perfect solution for every user, but its combination of features and performance puts it among the top contenders in its category.
