Realme GT 2 Pro uses a 50MP Sony IMX766 sensor as featured on OPPO Find X3 Pro and Realme GT Explorer Master

As much as I love Realme, they have been a bit lacklustre in the camera department. Many of the phones produce decent quality shots in good light, but they tend to not be quite as good as competing brands.

There is, of course, a balance between cost/features/performance. The original Realme GT was a superb phone thanks to its incredibly attractive price, and few phones have launched anywhere near its RRP with the Snapdragon 888. Low light performance wasn’t amazing, but in good lighting, the phone produced good results.

Later in the year, Realme launched the and Realme GT Explorer Master, which had the potential to be their best phone of the year thanks to the Snapdragon 870 paired with the superb 50MP Sony IMX766. Sadly, for whatever reasons, Realme chose not to launch this in the UK.

For the 2022 flagship Realme GT 2 Pro, the brand is putting more focus on its camera.

50MP Sony IMX766 Primary Camera

Most importantly, the primary camera is that excellent 50MP Sony IMX766 with a sensor size of 1/1.56″. It is not the absolute best sensor on the market, but it is certainly up there and used on some of the best phones of 2021, including the OPPO Find X3 Pro and OnePlus 9. It is believed this should also have OIS, which should help improve the consistency of shots.

150-degree ultrawide

Then for the ultrawide camera, Realme are doing something unique with a 150-degree field of view which should also allow them to produce fisheye style photos. The exact specification of this camera remains unknown. Typically Realme uses a generic low-quality ultrawide sensor (like most affordable phones), it would be good if they had something better quality, ideally using the IMX766 again, but this would also increase the price.

Microscope lens

Finally, the phone will have a microscope 2.0 lens. I assume this is a 2^nd generation microscope lens similar to the one on the OPPO Find X3 Pro. I am reviewing this phone now, the microscope lens is better than the ubiquitous macro lens, but it still has limited use.

For selfies, the GT2 Pro will feature a 32-megapixel front-facing camera. 

Early certifications for the phone revealed it has a a 6.7-inch AMOLED display that offers a Quad HD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate, and like most flagship phones, it will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset.

Launch Date and Time

The phone will be announced on the 4^th of January. The time on the teaser states 19:30, but I am unsure if this is Chinese time or Pacific Time Zone for Las Vegas, where CES 2022 is being held.
