It has been less than two days since the VP of Xiaomi revealed that Pocophone / Poco will be operating as an independent brand.
Before this, the new Poco F2 had shown up in trademark application and now it seems that new images of the Poco F2 Lite have shown up online, which also give away some of the specs of the phone. The image doesn’t really reveal a great deal but it is another confirmation that the phone is likely to launch sometime in the near future.
The new phone will feature a waterdrop notch and is (obviously) running Android 10. It is believed that the Lite model will use the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765, which looks set to be the go-to chipset this year offering 5G connectivity and high performance at a reduced price compared to the flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 865.
Rumours indicate the phone will have a 5,000mAh battery, a 25% increase over the Pocophone F1.
The previous generation did not have a Lite model, but with the company operating as its own brand, they will likely want to appeal to as many users as possible.
With Xiaomi already having a lot of affordable flagship and mid-range options, it will be interesting to see how the new independent Pocophone can differentiate themselves price and spec-wise. It is likely we could have a similar scenario to Realme/OPPO where the two brands release suspiciously similar spec phones but at different price points.
