Recently it was revealed that Xiaomi will be using a yet unannounced Mediatek Helio G70 chipset in the up and coming Redmi 9 phone.
With the G90 being a gaming orientated chipset, and performing so well against the Qualcomm Snapdragon 730, I was left wondering what the Helio G70 might be like, especially when the Redmi 8 uses the low-end Snapdragon 439.
A new leak has come from Weibo that claims to give us the basic spec of the new chipset.
With this going inside the Redmi 9, it may come as no surprise that this is on the lower end of the spec. It should be a massive upgrade for the Redmi device, but at the same time, I was hoping for a bit more.
The closest competitor to the Helio G70 I can find is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 which has a slighter better-clocked CPU.
Both chipsets have two Cortex-A75 cores but the Helio G70 is clocked slightly lower, they also have six Cortex-A55 cores with the Snapdragon clocked at 1.7Ghz and the Mediatek either at 1.7Ghz or 1.8Ghz.
The Mediatek G70 will then use the Arm Mali G52 GPU with 2 cores whereas Qualcomm use their own Adreno 616 GPU.
At the moment there is no other word on the specification, nor is the accuracy of this leak confirmed.
