[Update 21-07-2020] MediaTek have now made the Dimensity 720 official. Details are a little thin at the moment, but this is a brand new chipset, rather than a tweaked existing design.
The Dimensity 720 is based on the 7nm fabrication process featuring an integrated 5G modem, and MediaTek’s UltraSave technology, leveraging both network and content awareness intelligence and operating mode in real-time.
Following on from the previous Geekbench leaks, it is confirmed that this is using two Arm Cortex-A76 big cores operating at 2GHz, with the remaining cores being Cortex A55. It is then equipped with a Arm Mali G57 class GPU, fast LPDDR4X memory and universal flash storage (UFS) 2.2.
This will also support 90Hz displays, MiraVision HDR10+ and support for up to 64MP or 20+16MP dual cameras.
I will update this post with a more details specification when available.

As I write this, it has been ten days since MediaTek announced the Helio G25 and G35 chipsets (rebranded P35). Sticking to their relentless launch schedule, Mediatek is expected to launch a new chipset as part of the Dimensity range before the end of the month.
There are reports that the Mediatek Dimensity 600 is set to launch. However, the Mediatek 5G page lists a new chipset called the Dimensity 720.
Since I wrote this, Mediatek has removed all references of the Dimensity 720 on their websites, and not many new publications have followed through with the Dimensity 600 story. So at the moment, nothing is certain about this chipset, even if it exists or not.
Mediatek Dimensity 720 previously listed on website
It is possible that two chipsets may launch, which would not be surprising for Mediatek, but I am inclined to say that the current reports of the Dimensity 600 are in fact the Dimensity 720.
With the Dimensity name, the new chipset will be a 5G part, and more affordable than the already very affordable Dimensity 800.
Apparently, the company has received a large number of orders in advance, and that a number of OEMs will release products powered by the Dimensity 720/600 series in the second half of the year.
With recent launches, the announcement of the chipset has also coincided with the announcement of a phone. This is normally either Xiaomi or Realme, but Honor launched the X10 with the Dimensity 800.
Currently, there are not confirmed specs of the chipset, so it is all speculation at the moment.
Recent Releases
In order to churn out so many chipsets Mediatek have been launching a lot of very similar chipsets but with different frequencies.
- The Mediatek Dimensity 820 is a Dimensity 800 with improved GPU
- The Helio G80 and G70 are essentially the same apart from a minor difference in frequencies.
- The Mediatek Helio P95 is the same as the Helio P90 but with more AI
- The Dimensity 1000+ is the same as the 1000 but with support for higher refresh rate screens
- The Dimensity 1000L is the same as the 1000 but with slightly different frequencies.
Mediatek Dimensity 720 Specification
Based on the current news the specification is a brand new chipset rather than a rehashed Dimensity 800.
The Mediatek Dimensity 720 is based on the 7nm fabrication process, similar to the other Dimensity chipsets, however, it is not just an underclocked Dimensity 800 like I previously speculated. It will also feature an integrated 5G modem.
The new chipset uses two Arm Cortex A76 cores clocked at 2.0 GHz then six Coretex A55 cores likely at 2.0Ghz. This is a similar design to the Helio G90t.
Unlike the Helio G90t, the GPU has seen an upgrade to the newer Arm Mali G57 class GPU but the exact specification has not been confirmed yet.
The chipset will use LPDDR4X memory and universal flash storage (UFS) 2.2.
It will also support displays up to 90Hz and there will be camera configurations up to 64MP or 20+16MP dual cameras,
Geekbench benchmark for MediaTek Dimensity 720 similar to Helio G90t
The latest tidbit of information about the MediaTek Dimensity 720 is a new Geekbench benchmark listing of the OPPO A72 which will be the first phone to feature the chipset.
The phone manages to achieve a score of 513 for the single core and 1659 for the multi core results with the CPU clocked at 2.00Ghz.
This is very similar to the MediaTek Helio G90t, indicating that it may use the same design as that.
