Two of the most interesting phones of the year are set to be announced on the same day, on the 22nd of July.
Launch Times
The Asus ROG Phone 3 event is being held at event is being held at 4:45pm UK time and will be launched in China and India initially. There is no word on its international launch, yet.
However, they will get pipped to the post by Leno, who is holding their event is at 7:30PM local time in China (4PM UK/BST).
It is unusual for phone brands to launch a device on the same day, and for two directly competing phones, this is particularly unusual.
I had forgotten that Lenovo even had phones of their own; instead, for the UK they have launched everything under Motorola. Their last flagship device was relatively unheard of Lenovo Z6 Pro. So it will be interesting if the new phone will receive a global launch
So far, we know that the Asus ROG Phone 3 definitely comes with the recently announced Qualcomm Snapdragon 865+. It is almost certain the Lenovo will feature the same chipset, and an early Antutu benchmark indicated roughly a 10% improvement in performance compared to the current best phones with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865
Asus ROG Phone 3 Specifications
We know for certain this will have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865+.
The phone has now passed through Taiwan’s NCC certification, confirming more details.
The model number listed in the NCC is ASUS_I003D, and that will arrive with the A299-200150U-US 30W fast charge adapter. The battery is a monstrous 6000 mAh and internal storage is listed at 512GB. This would be one of the largest batteries on the market.
The phone will also have 12GB of RAM and run Android 10 out of the box. The ROG Phone 3 will have a 6.59-inch FullHD+ AMOLED screen with an integrated in-display fingerprint scanner.
The NCC listing did not state the refresh rate, but it is highly likely that it will run at 144Hz, currently, it is expected to run at 2340 x 1080.
Like all gaming phones, the camera spec doesn’t quite compete with none gaming phones.
There is a total of four cameras (three on the back, one in the front), we only know that the main camera is a 64MP module, and one of the secondary cameras will be of 13MP.
Lenovo Legion Gaming Phone Specifications
Lenovo is going all out with their new phone, benchmarks have indicated some key specs which include the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865+ SoC and it is one of the first phones to have 16GB of RAM.
Other leaks indicate the new faster UFS 3.1 storage and a full-HD+ (1,080×2,340 pixels) display with a 144Hz refresh rate and 270Hz touch sampling rate.
Similar to the Asus the camera spec is middling with a two rear-facing cameras (64-megapixel and 16-megapixel) along with a 20-megapixel selfie camera on the front.
Early leaks of the phone indicated that it had the rear cameras located in the middle of the phone, and the selfie is a pop-up camera also raising up out the side on the centre. Presumably, this will be superior for landscape selfies and possibly live streaming gaming.
In terms of battery, the Lenovo Legion gaming phone is said to come with 5,000mAh battery with staggering 90W fast charging support.
Benchmarks – Antutu – Geekbench
There are no benchmarks of the Asus yet, but a couple of leaks have come out for the Lenovo with impressive results
The phone was spotted on AnTuTu where it achieved a total score of 648,871 points, there has also been a separate leak which indicated 667,253.
A Geekbench Version 4 listing showed the phone scoring 4,556 points on the single-core test and 13,438 points on the multi-core test.
