EPOS is best known for their range of gaming headsets and surround sound DACs which were previously branded, then co-branded with Sennheiser.
Like almost every other company on the planet, they have no launched some true wireless earbuds.
With EPOS being a gaming brand they offer something many TWS earphones lack. The EPOS GTW 270 use the AptX low latency codec which offers latency as low as 40ms compared to the 170 – 270 ms you find one most TWS earbuds that use SBC only.
Maximum Bit rate | Latency | Max Sampling Rate | Max Bit depth | |
SBC | 328 kbps | 170 – 270 ms | 48 kHz | 16-bit |
aptX | 352 kbps | 120 ms | 48 kHz | 16-bit |
aptX LL | 352 kbps | 40 ms | 48 kHz | 16-bit |
aptX HD | 576 kbps | 200 ms | 48 kHz | 24-bit |
LDAC | 990 kbps | 160-210ms | 96 kHz | 24-bit |
The low latency gaming features are not restricted to phones that are compatible with AptX LL, the EPOS GTW 270 come with a USB-C dongle which will enable compatibility on a wide range of device including Nintendo Switch, Android phone, PC and Sony PlayStation consoles.
I have previously reviewed the Creative BT-W3 USB-C dongle which offers aptX Low Latency which sells for £35, so having a dongle included with the EPOS GTW 270 is an excellent value-added feature. When not using the dongle, the earphones use standard Bluetooth 5.1 connectivity.
A 1.5-meter USB-C to USB-A converter cable for PC and Sony PlayStation consoles is also included.
The earbuds offer five hours of uninterrupted battery life from just a 90-minute charge then the carrying case, in a sleek gunmetal silver, provides an additional 20 hours of charge for extended gaming sessions.
With interchangeable rubberized ear tip sizes and a unique ergonomic shape, each noise-isolating earbud fits to the natural shape of ears for a comfortable fit.
The GTW 270 Hybrid also boasts IPX 5 water resistance, protecting them from sweat and light rain.
You can optionally buy the earbuds without a dongle for ₤149 GBP or including the dongle they cost ₤179 GBP available from Scan, EPOS and Amazon
