Huawei MateBook X Pro 2021 now available for £1,599.99 – 14” 1.3kg ultraportable with Intel i7-1165G7, Intel Iris Xe, 16GB RAM & 1TB SSD

I have been a big fan of the Huawei laptops, both the Intel-based Matebook 13 and AMD based Matebook 14 are superb and offer excellent value for money. The one laptop I haven’t tried is the flagship Huawei MateBook X Pro. This is the first Huawei laptop to get a 2021 refresh and as you … Read more

Huawei Sound now available for £199.99 – The Huawei X Devialet collab has more connectivity, still no Spotify streaming – What else is different vs Sound X?

I loved the Huawei Sound X, it has an awesome room-filling sound with incredible bass making it the best Bluetooth speaker I have reviewed. However, it was just that, a Bluetooth speaker, and with a £300 price tag at the time of launch, it wasn’t cheap either. You can now buy it for just £179 … Read more

HarmonyOS launches in April on Huawei Mate X2 – Huawei P50 Pro likely to launch at a later date (May)

This time two years ago was the launch of the Huawei P30 Pro in Paris, and what a two years it has been. At the time, we never knew this would be the last Huawei device to feature Google Mobile Services out of the box and a global pandemic with a years' worth of lockdowns was something of horror movies.

P30 Pro launch, when times were simpler

Huawei P40 Pro first flagship without Google

Last years Huawei P40 Pro and the P40 Pro+ launched with Android, but without Google Mobile Services with Huawei shifting to Huawei Mobile Services and using things like Petal Search to help users sideload apps not natively in the store. At launch, you were able to install Google via some hacking around, but this workaround appears to have been patched up.

Huawei's long term plan has been their HarmonyOS, and it has long been expected that the Huawei P50 Pro will be one of the first devices to launch using it out of the box.

It won't be the first phone to use it though; many Huawei devices will have a firmware update that will shift the device over to HarmonyOS.

Strava support might soon come to Huawei Watch GT2 devices & finally be a good Garmin alternative

While I generally love the Huawei watches, they have a major flaw. For watches that are so focussed on health and fitness (the app is even called Huawei Health) there is a serious issue with the lack of integration with major fitness apps. Specifically, Strava. When I moan about it to other tech bloggers, I … Read more

Huawei Mate X2 Announced – What should be a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 killer is still hobbled by a lack of Google and unknown global availability

Huawei and Samsung announced their first flagship foldables around the same time. Both companies adopted a different approach, with Samsung using an inward-facing display and Huawei an outwards. Most people preferred the Huawei design, thanks to the large more usable display that would then provide a massive outer display. But this design also raised concerns … Read more

Last year we … Read more

Huawei FreeBuds Studio vs Sony WH-1000XM4 vs Bose 700 & QuietComfort 35 – Could the Freebuds Pro be the best active noise-cancelling headphones on the market?

As part of the Huawei Mate 40 Pro launch, Huawei took the wraps off their latest audio product, the Huawei FreeBuds Studio. Being over the head headphones keeping the FreeBuds branding seems a little stupid, but I guess the name rolls off the tongue little easier than WH-1000XM4. Huawei has been expanding their product range … Read more
