The new FRITZ!Box generation: FRITZ!Box 7590
At Cebit AVM is presenting the FRITZ!Box 7590, its new top model for fast DSL connections. The powerful FRITZ!Box is a synthesis of elegant design and cutting-edge technology. It runs on any DSL connection and is ready for the future: With support for VDSL supervectoring 35b it achieves an impressive download speed of up to 300 Mbit/s. The new model can also be deployed on current IP-based connections and analog and ISDN lines. Via the gigabit WAN port, it can be connected to a fiber optic or cable modem. A powerful dual-core processor of the latest generation provides for optimal routing of all data. The FRITZ!Box 7590 exchanges data over wireless LAN at gigabit speeds: With 4×4 Multi-User MIMO, rates of 1733 Mbit/s are achieved on the 5-GHz frequency band alone. Another 800 Mbit/s are added on the 2.4-GHz band. A total of eight antennas ensure that all wireless devices have optimal data reception. Thanks to band steering, the devices are always dynamically routed to the band with the best data throughput. With the new FRITZ!Box it is easy to connect everything in the home network. For instance, a full-fledged telephone system for all line types (IP, ISDN, analog) is on board as well. Plus a DECT base station for cordless phones and Smart Home applications. All existing telecommunications devices can be connected to the DSL model via the ISDN S₀ bus and two analog ports. With four gigabit LAN ports, the FRITZ!Box 7590 offers powerful networking possibilities. Two USB 3.0 ports integrate storage media with data transfer rates two to four times higher than its predecessor model. The USB ports also support LTE mobile communications dongles and printers. With the FRITZ!Box 7590, AVM scores again with convenience and energy efficiency: For the first time, the LEDs on a FRITZ!Box can be dimmed automatically depending on the ambient light. Its energy efficiency is remarkable. Despite improved routing performance and more features, the FRITZ!Box remains as energy efficient as ever.
High speed and convenience on the cable connection: FRITZ!Box 6590 Cable
For future speeds in the cable network, the new flagship FRITZ!Box 6590 Cable will be available starting in June in Germany. It brings high-speed Internet, VoIP and cable TV to the home. Thanks to the 32×8 DOCSIS 3.0 channel bonding on the basis of DOCSIS 3.0, the new top model enables data rates of up to 1.7 Gbit/s downstream and 240 Mbit/s upstream. The FRITZ!Box 6590 Cable relies on fast, intelligent WiFi for wireless communication: With a total of eight wireless LAN antennas and Multi-User MIMO technology (4×4), it offers optimum WiFi for all mobile devices, just like the FRITZ!Box 7590. The 6590 also streams free-to-air TV channels on DVB-C connections to smartphones, tablets or notebooks via FRITZ!App TV or VLC player. With the market launch of the FRITZ!Box 6590 Cable, a total of three FRITZ!Box models for the cable connection will be available from retailers.
Mesh convenience in the wireless LAN: Band steering for repeater and powerline, new connection overview
At Cebit 2017 AVM is presenting new features that offer even more mesh convenience for seamless communication among all devices in the wireless LAN. Even now the FRITZ!Box can be combined with the FRITZ!WLAN Repeater and FRITZ!Powerline with wireless LAN to create a high-performance wireless LAN with the convenience of mesh. The FRITZ! home network is modular and easy to expand: All it takes is a FRITZ!WLAN Repeater or FRITZ!Powerline inserted the outlet, and then connected at the press of a button to extend your range. All devices use a wireless network with the same name (SSID) and network key (WPA2). Highly developed WiFi technologies like crossband repeating, band steering (with FRITZ!OS 6.80) and Multi-User MIMO provide for fast, efficient distribution of the data. The preliminary version of FRITZ!OS presented at the AVM stand will show how modified wireless LAN settings in the FRITZ!Box (e.g. guest access, night service) are passed on automatically to other FRITZ! products in the home network. A new graphic overview illustrates with which FRITZ! products and at which data rates the home network devices like smartphones, televisions, and printers are connected. When multiple repeaters are in use, the system first decides which path to use for the best access to the home network (dynamic uplink). Another new wireless LAN feature is band steering for repeaters and powerline devices with wireless LAN. For all FRITZ!WLAN Repeaters and FRITZ!Powerline/wireless LAN products that support dual-band transmission, the wireless LAN frequency bands are then controlled automatically to ensure the best data transmission possible.
Smart Home with FRITZ! in the office and at home
Getting started with Smart Home is a piece of cake with FRITZ! products. The smart plugs (FRITZ!DECT 200, 210, FRITZ!Powerline 546E) and the new radiator control (FRITZ!DECT 300) can be deployed immediately by anyone, no handyman required. And they cover the most popular Smart Home functions: switching and measuring electrical appliances, as well as intelligent temperature control. Operation is child’s play with the browser, FRITZ!App or FRITZ!Fon. The FRITZ!Box is a powerful home network hub. In the sphere of home automation, AVM builds on DECT and DECT ULE. Advantages of this standard include high range, low power consumption, secure encryption and its own frequency range. With FRITZ!OS 6.80 FRITZ! already supports the HAN-FUN standard, which is a further development of DECT ULE that allows for even more Smart Home scenarios. In the business sector, too, FRITZ! products offer many intelligent application possibilities for convenience and energy savings. FRITZ!DECT 210 with splash protection is also suitable for business applications under damp conditions. Since the device is designed for a current of 15 A, even “major consumers” like dishwashers, dryers, or water pumps up to 3450 W can be switched via the smart plug. And when you are on the go, all devices can be controlled using the MyFRITZ! service and the MyFRITZ!App. At home, FRITZ!Fon offers additional convenience as the remote control for smart AVM products. Updates for all FRITZ! products are made available periodically. This way you can always add new features to your devices after purchase and keep them up to date with the latest security.
New features for FRITZ!App – More range with new FRITZ!Powerline and FRITZ!WLAN Stick
There is also news for the MyFRITZ!App for Android, the app for secure access to the home network from on the go or from home: The FRITZ!Box user interface can now be opened directly from the MyFRITZ!App. Two more products about to be launched will also provide for greater range: FRITZ!Powerline 1260E and FRITZ!WLAN Stick 430 AC MU-MIMO. FRITZ!WLAN Stick AC 430 MU-MIMO equips PCs and notebooks that don’t support Wireless AC or the MU-MIMO technology with faster transmission rates. The USB dongle transmits on both the 2.4-GHz and the 5-GHz frequency band, achieving data rates of up to 433 Mbit/s. With the slim FRITZ!Powerline 1260E, network-enabled devices can be integrated easily into the home network via the socket. Thanks to the integrated dual-band wireless LAN even devices without a cable connection have access to your network and can be integrated seamlessly into the FRITZ! home network. The new FRITZ!Powerline product transmits with Wireless AC at up to 866 Mbit/s (5 GHz) and Wireless N (2.4 GHz) at up to 400 Mbit/s.
FRITZ!: Sustainable and energy efficient
When purchasing home network products, it is worth taking a look at power consumption. Especially when multiple devices are used, to extend range, for instance, all those watts add up. With around 8 watts on standby, the FRITZ!Box 7490 is one of the most energy-efficient routers available today. The new FRITZBox 7590 does even better: Despite significantly higher routing power, the new model remains as energy-efficient as its predecessors. This is possible in part through the use of new power supply units (Level VI) which have an improved level of efficiency. Other FRITZ! products also have impressive consumption results. For instance, at just 1.3 watts the power consumption of the FRITZ!WLAN Repeater 310 is considerably lower than for other common repeaters.
FRITZ!OS 6.80 roll-out: Over eighty innovations and improvements
The new FRITZ!OS 6.80 brings many free highlights to the FRITZ!Box models. The new FRITZ!OS 6.80 is currently being rolled out. With 80 innovations and improvements the new software version optimizes FRITZ! homes. The highlights cover many areas: Thanks to band steering, wireless LAN by FRITZ! now adjusts even better to different needs. It is also easier to allocate the data rates available in the home network and guest network. The new online monitor is also very handy, since it now displays the data rates of the guest access on top of the usual downstream rates for Internet and IP TV. There are also new features and new displays for smart plugs in the Smart Home area. The popular MyFRITZ! service appears in a responsive design and the MyFRITZ!App simplifies the secure access to the home network. The FRITZ!Fon receives new start screens and a night service. Safe surfing, streaming and communication are based on regular updates. FRITZ!OS 6.80 keeps the FRITZ!Box safe and up to date. Settings and changes can be configured even safer now with an additional confirmation (two-factor authentication). At the same time, demands on password security have increased. For beginners or home network experts: everyone benefits from the new FRITZ!OS. For more information about the models and innovations: en.avm.de/products/fritzOS/fritzos-680.

But do they finally support jumbo frames as the 7490 doesn’t.
Have to say the 7490 is probably the best piece of networking gear I’ve ever owned, the merging of phone & xDSL, call handling features and rock stable VDSL is brilliant, tempted with the new one too.
I will message my PR contact for you and try and find out. But, yes the 7490 is superb and has been my personal router for the past couple of years. Never had any issues with it. I am hoping AVM will hook me up with one of the new models!
