For a while Ring smart doorbells were the only decent option on the market, but, quite likely due to their success, several other brands entered last year including Arlo Audio Doorbell and Nest Hello.
Not to be left out Netatmo have just announced their own smart video doorbell at CES 2019.
With the Netatmo Smart Video Doorbell, the user knows who has come to see them, wherever they are. When a visitor rings the Doorbell, the user receives a video call on their smartphone and sees their visitor. They can choose to speak to them – or not – and immediately respond remotely from their smartphone whether they are home, in the office or on the other side of the world. The user can thus tell the delivery person
Enhanced security via person detection
With the Netatmo Smart Video Doorbell, the user knows who has come to see them, wherever they are. The user can set specific alert zones, for example around the main path. The Smart Video Doorbell then only notifies the user when something occurs in these zones.
Unlike some of the Ring
The press release does not mention the WiFi capabilities of the doorbell. With the wired Ring Video Doorbell Pro you get access to the 5GHz spectrum which allows a less congested connection to your router and improved performance.
Exceptional image quality for protection day and night
The Smart Video Doorbell has a 1080p Full HD camera with a large 160-degree wide angle lens giving optimum video quality.
The camera’s HDR function adjusts to sudden changes in light and allows the user to clearly see what is happening in front of their home whatever the lighting conditions. This means that visitors’ faces will be clear even against the sunlight.
Netatmo’s Smart Video Doorbell protects the home day and night using infrared night vision. The user can always see the visitor at their door, even in total darkness.
No subscription and respects privacy
The Smart Video Doorbell comes with all features included, including video storage. No subscription or additional costs are necessary to use the Doorbell, nor access its data. In comparison Ring only provides notifications on its free plan while Nest requires a paid subcription.
Videos and history of calls received by the Video Doorbell are saved locally on an internal micro-SD card. They can also be automatically transferred and archived on the user’s Dropbox account or personal FTP server.
In order to ensure a secured transmission of data to the user’s smartphone, the Smart Video Doorbell uses end-to-end encryption, guaranteeing the highest level of protection.
The Netatmo Smart Video Doorbell is the first doorbell compatible with Apple HomeKit. The user simply asks Siri to show them the Doorbell to see who is ringing or who is outside the door. With Apple HomeKit, the user can also create customised scenarios to connect their Smart Video Doorbell to other smart devices in their home, according to different combinations. For example, the outdoor lights can switch on automatically when the Smart Video Doorbell detects someone, in order to deter a potential intruder.
