Owning a printer has become less common in recent years, with most people only using them for parcel labels. Many companies like Amazon now offer returns without the need for a label, but if you sell items that need posting, either personal items through eBay or as a business, then being able to print shipping labels is essential.

For the past few years, I have printed all my labels on A4 and then used tape to stick them on. I have now finally upgraded to a proper label printer, which saves the hassle of having to tape labels onto packages.

The Munbyn RW402B is a relatively new launch, but already has a lot of positive reviews on Amazon and the brand, in general, has excellent reviews.

Specification / Features

The Munbyn RW402 wireless thermal printer offers a range of features designed to enhance label printing efficiency and versatility. This device is suitable for various applications, from shipping labels to home organisation stickers.

  • High-Volume Printing: The RW402 can print up to 970,000 shipping labels, which is significantly more than standard printers.
  • Automatic Size Detection: The printer’s app includes an Auto Size Detection feature, which can recognise label sizes ranging from 1.57″ to 4.3″. This functionality eliminates the need for manual sorting of label stacks.
  • MicroJam Technology: This innovative feature reduces paper jams to less than 0.01% of print jobs, potentially lowering long-term costs by minimising waste and enhancing productivity.
  • AI Integration: The RW402 incorporates artificial intelligence to optimise print head performance, aiming to improve print and delivery accuracy.
  • Versatile Printing Options: In addition to shipping labels, the printer can handle various types of labels, including home organisation stickers and branding decoration stickers. A dedicated model is also available for photo printing.

Customisation and Software

The Munbyn RW402 offers extensive customisation options through its software:

  • Access to over 3,500 design elements
  • More than 2,000 pre-designed templates
  • 80+ fonts available

The printer supports PDF and TXT file imports and includes OCR (Optical Character Recognition) functionality for text recognition. It also offers multi-language support across various platforms.

Software Availability:

  • Mobile and tablet users can download the ‘MUNBYN Print’ app
  • Laptop and desktop users can access the online ‘Munbyn editor’

This thermal printer aims to provide a comprehensive solution for users requiring efficient and flexible label printing capabilities.

Unboxing / Design

The printer itself is quite small, making it easy to pack away when not in use.

It is a simple design with the labels fed through the back of the printer out the front. You have a button to unlock the lid on the right and the feed button on top, which glows green when it is ready or red if there is a problem.

On the rear, you have the DC power port, on/off switch and USB-C port.

While the printer itself is small, if you want to use it with a roll of labels or a block of fanfold labels, then you ideally need to use the label holder. This is a large plastic tray that allows you to feed labels into the printer with minimal risk of jams.

The combination of the label printer and tray ends up being quite large.

Set-Up

Setting up the Munbyn RW402B is straightforward. The printer comes with a power cord, power adaptor, Type-C cable, Type-C to USB adapter, user manual, and quick tips card. The process is user-friendly, even for those who are not particularly tech-savvy.

To get started, you’ll need to download the ‘MUNBYN Print’ app on your mobile device or access the online ‘Munbyn editor’ on your computer. The printer can be connected via USB or Bluetooth, offering flexibility in how you choose to use it.

The Windows driver is available via Munbyn as an EXE and is installed with no issues. Windows was able to print immediately, which makes a pleasant change as many printers cause nothing but problems

The automatic label size detection feature means you don’t have to worry about aligning the paper perfectly – you can insert it anywhere, and the printer will configure itself automatically.

Mobile App & Online Tool

The Munbyn RW402B comes with a mobile app called ‘MUNBYN Print’ which is available for both iOS and Android devices.

The app allows users to select label size, hit print, and have the label ready in a matter of seconds. It offers a wide range of templates for various occasions, from holiday labels to shipping labels, and allows for customisation of label size and style.

For those who prefer working on a computer, there’s an online ‘Munbyn editor’ available. This web-based tool offers similar functionality to the mobile app, allowing users to create and print labels directly from their laptop or desktop.

Both the app and online tool offer a variety of customisation options. Users can add text, icons, illustrations, borders, graphics, images, barcodes, and QR codes to their labels. The software also supports PDF and TXT file imports and includes OCR functionality for text recognition.

You can also print normally from any application like Word. The print size will be automatically set, so you can print addresses or other information directly from Word.

Printing Performance

The Munbyn RW402B offers impressive printing performance. It can print at a speed of 150mm per second, making it one of the fastest on the market. The printer uses thermal technology, which means you never have to worry about replacing ink or toner cartridges.

The print quality is high, with a resolution of 203 DPI, ensuring that labels are clear, easy to read, and scan. The printer can handle a variety of label sizes, from 4cm to 11cm wide, giving users flexibility in their label choices.

One of the standout features is the MicroJam technology, which reduces paper jams to less than 0.01% of print jobs. This not only saves time but also reduces waste, making the printer more cost-effective and environmentally friendly in the long run.

Since using the printer, I have found it reliable, and there are no jams yet. Sometimes, the sheet doesn’t get fed through fully, but if you press the button on top, it will realign itself.

For me, it has been a big time saver when printing labels for eBay sales. It is particularly useful for smaller packages where A4 printed labels.

Overall

The Munbyn RW402B Bluetooth Thermal Printer is a excellent and versatile label printer that offers a range of features beneficial for small business owners, particularly those in e-commerce or crafting businesses. Its compact size, ease of use, and ability to print a variety of label sizes make it a practical choice for those needing to print shipping labels or product tags regularly.

The thermal printing technology eliminates the need for ink or toner, which can lead to long-term cost savings. The high-speed printing and low jam rate contribute to improved efficiency, potentially saving valuable time for busy entrepreneurs.

However, it’s worth noting that while the printer itself is compact, the label holder can take up considerable space. This might be a consideration for those with limited workspace. Additionally, while the printer offers good value for its features, there are cheaper options available on the market, albeit with potentially fewer features or lower print quality.

Overall, if you print labels on a regular basis, then a label printer is a wise investment. As the Munbyn RW402B is a bit more expensive than some options, it is probably best suited to small businesses/sole traders who sell items frequently online. It is ideal for anyone who sells a lot on Etsy and eBay.
