Intel Core i9-10900 vs AMD Ryzen 9 3900X & 3700X Benchmarks Compared – Intel engineering sample tested with disappointing results

Intel are due to launch i9-10900 10-core, 20-thread processor sometime in the near future, but a Hong Kong based YouTuber has managed to get their hand on what appears to be an engineering sample of the new CPU.

This is the low-TDP version of the 10-core CPU coming in at just 65W which matches the AMD Ryzen 7 3000 models but comes in well under the 105W of the AMD Ryzen 9 3900X.

The new Intel Core i9-10900 is based on the new LGA 1200 socket and XFastest ran the CPU through a series of benchmarks including Cinebench R15, CPU-Z and Cinebench R20

In Cinebench R15, the processor achieved a multi-threaded score of 1670  and a single-threaded score of 182. In Cinehench R20, the engineering sample achieved single-threaded and multi-threaded scores of 441 and 3714, respectively.

In comparison the AMD Ryzen 9 3900X scores 209 and 3049 in Cinebench R15 and then 511 and 7100 in R20.

Looking at the R15 results, this would also put the CPU around the same as the 8-core AMD Ryzen 7 W 2700X which achieved 180/1783. The 65W 80core Ryzen 3700X achieves 199/2101.

During the tests, the clock speeds varied wildly and the CPU massively underperforms when you look at other CPUs either from Intel or AMD. In particular, the multi-core score seems very low.

With this being unfinalised hardware, it should hopefully not be accurate about the i9-10900 performance. It looks like the CPU does 3.1Ghz to 3.2Ghz all core turbo which is unlikely to happen when the CPU is released to retail.
