We already know that the Garmin Forerunner 955 and FR255 will launch at the start of June, but it is looking increasingly likely that the Garmin Edge 1040 will also launch then. Or at least in the near future.
Recently, the5krunner was quick enough to get some leaked information off the Garmin forums before they pulled the posts.
The information includes the product blurb and photos which is similar to the retail listings we got with the FR955.
If all the below is accurate, the upgrade seems to be quite incremental. Garmin has integrated a lot of the new technology and features we have seen implemented on recent watches like the Fenix 7 and Epix Gen 2.
This includes:
- A significant increase in battery life and a massive 70-hours from the battery saver mode
- Improved navigation that is aided by the new multi-band GNSS functionality.
- Mapping, in general, should be improved thanks to heatmaps
- The stamina feature we saw with the Fenix 7/Epix
I’d also assume it is not USB-C which some people will no doubt feel is the most important upgrade.
It is also believed that there may be a solar model which could extend the battery up to 100 hours. Due to the size of the unit, compared to a watch, it seems to make sense they would integrate solar.
