Another day and another retailer getting over-eager with publishing product pages. Yesterday we had a US-based retailer publish the full product page for the Garmin Forerunner 955, and today we have a Danish retailer, Løberen, publishing the images and price of the Garmin Forerunner 255.
Price
We have had a previous price leak for the Forerunner 255, and this product listing is roughly the same price.
Previously it was stated that the two models would cost:
- Forerunner 255 (music) for €400 (£335 / $420)
- Forerunner 255 (no music) for €350 (£293 / $367)
This listing is for 3099 Danish Krone, which works out as £353.81.
The Forerunner 245 with music is currently priced at £299 on Garmin, and this is the same as the launch RRP.
The Forerunner 245 without music launched for £250.
Current Amazon pricing is £180 and £245.
Garmin Forerunner 255 vs Garmin Forerunner 245 Design
Based on the current images, the overall design looks very similar. Oddly, it does appear that the new Garmin Forerunner 255 has a thicker bezel than the FR245. There are no distinguishing marks suggesting that the bezel includes solar, so I am not sure why it would be thicker.
Garmin also appears to have removed the flared design around the buttons, which I always thought looked a little odd.
On the underside of the watch, we can see the charge port has changed side and that the optical sensor has been upgraded to match all the other new watches.
Garmin Forerunner 255 Features
This listing does not reveal anything new about the features. Previously it was reported:
- Upgraded HR sensor and GPS
- It is believed the Forerunner 255 will be upgraded with a barometric altimeter which will aid with running power.
- There should be a new smaller Forerunner 255s
- Running power via an external device
- Morning Report
Overall
Beyond the price, not much interesting has been revealed from this listing. Unless there is a last-minute change, it looks like the Garmin Forerunner 255 will cost about £50 more than the RRP of the Garmin Forerunner 245.
A £50 price hike isn’t too bad as long as the FR255 has enough new features to justify it.
If you are looking out for a new watch, I’d suggest holding out for another week. I’d expect that prices of the existing Forerunner 245 could be dropped further, giving you an opportunity to pick up a bargain.
