Consumer electronics company Creative has announced the launch of two new desktop speaker systems under its popular Pebble lineup – the Pebble X and Pebble X Plus. Sporting RGB lighting, upgraded audio components and sleek designs, the speakers aim to appeal to users looking for an immersive audio-visual experience on their desks.
Enhanced Audio Performance
The key highlights of the new Pebble X series are the improved audio capabilities over previous Pebble models. Both the 2.0 Pebble X and 2.1 Pebble X Plus feature enlarged 2.75-inch full-range drivers that Creative claims can deliver superior sound quality for music, movies and gaming.
The speakers utilize Creative’s proprietary audio technologies like Dialog+ for clear vocal reproduction and BassFlex for punchy low frequencies. On paper, the speakers boast some impressive specs – up to 15W RMS power when connected via USB to a computer, and a remarkable 60W peak power output when used with a 30W PD adapter.
To put things in perspective, the popular Pebble V3 2.1 speakers output just 10W RMS power. So the new models represent a decent boost over predecessors.
Striking, Illuminated Designs
Looks-wise, the Pebble X models sport Creative’s signature 45-degree elevated shape with an LED base that illuminates the desk. Users can customize the RGB lighting with 16.8 million colors and effects that react to music or choose from six presets.
The Pebble X Plus stands out by incorporating a compact subwoofer with dual passive radiators for better bass, while still having a small footprint for desk use. Both models feature headphone and microphone jacks for communication and private listening.
Extensive Connectivity
For input sources, users are spoilt for choice. The speakers support USB audio, Bluetooth 5.3 wireless streaming from mobile devices, and a universal 3.5mm aux port for connection to TVs and games consoles.
Creative also provides mobile apps for iOS and Android that grant access to audio tweaking features like surround sound, EQ presets and volume leveling.
Comparisons to Predecessors
The new Pebble X models supersede the previous Pebble V3 series as Creative’s flagship desktop speakers in terms of both design and audio performance. As shown in the table below, they output greater power with enlarged driver units compared to predecessors.
The RGB lighting and sleek aesthetics also give them more flair than the rather basic looks of the older Pebble and Pebble Plus models. However, the latter remains on sale for more budget-conscious buyers.
