Intel has not formally announced the Alder Lake (12th-gen) CPUs yet, and it is expected they will announce them at the Intel Innovation event will take place on 27-28 October.

Today, Acer is getting out ahead of this news with the announcement of the new Predator Orion 7000, which will feature the latest unlocked 12th Gen Intel Core processors and up to 64 GB of the brand new DDR5-4000 RAM.

The new system can also be customised with up to an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 series GPU.

The system ticks a lot of other boxes, you get Intel Killer 2.5G LAN, Intel WiFi 6E (AX211).

For storage there is 2.5-inch USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-C hot-swap drive bay, 2x M.2 PCIe 4.0 NVIMe SSDs (up to 1 TB each) and two 3.5-inch SATA3 HDD (up to 3 TB each). I assume the up to 1 TB each means that’s the top spec option you can choose.

Then On the chassis’ front for quick access are three USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type A, one USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type C, and two audio jacks. On the back, there are three USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A, one USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 Type-C, two USB 2.0 ports, and three audio jacks.

Price and Availability

There are inevitable caveats to this announcement. With the CPUs not being available until at least November, it comes as no surprise that the PC won’t be launching until 2022.

For China and the EU and hopefully the UK, the is in Q1 but that could be as late as March. Americans are less lucky with a Q2 launch which could make the system look less appealing at that point.

Big brand pre-build systems don’t always offer the best value, and this system will start at EUR 2,199 or just shy of £1900.

We have no idea what the base spec is, or Alder Late pricing. I’d say the system needs to come with a minimum of an RTX3070 to represent good value for money, but that may be an optimistic expectation.
