Along with the Xiaomi 13T announcement, Xiaomi has also announced its latest smartwatch, the Xiaomi Watch 2 Pro, which runs Wear OS.

This is the first time Xiaomi has launched a Wear OS watch since Mi Watch in 2020.

Recent Xiaomi watches, such as the Xiaomi Watch S1 Pro and Xiaomi Watch S1 have used the less smart MIUI Watch OS, which is great for battery life but with very limited customizability.

Wear OS has struggled to gain traction over the years, with Samsung being the best current option at the moment. They recently launched the Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 series, and I enjoyed using the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 when I reviewed it.

Google finally launched the Pixel Watch last year to middling reviews, but Google is expected to launch the new Pixel Watch 2 as part of the Made by Google event on October 4 where they will also launch the new Pixel 8 Pro.

I am glad to see more options for Wear OS, and I will be reviewing the Xiaomi Watch 2 Pro over the next couple of weeks.

I have not had a chance to use the watch yet, so can’t confirm some of the claims, but the standout feature of this watch is the battery life. Xiaomi claims this can last up to 65 hours with the Bluetooth variant. These numbers are normally overly optimistic, but the watch has a 495mAh, which is significantly larger than the Pixel Watch or Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 series.

If I can reliably get two days of full use from this watch, I will be very happy.

Design and Display

Xiaomi Watch 2 Pro 2

The Xiaomi Watch 2 Pro features a 1.43-inch full-screen AMOLED display with a resolution of 466 x 466 pixels and a pixel density of 326 PPI. The display can reach a brightness level of up to 600 nits, making it easily readable even in bright outdoor conditions. The watch case is made of stainless steel, adding a touch of elegance and durability.

The device comes pre-loaded with 20 watch faces and offers 2GB of memory along with 32GB of storage. Users have the option to choose from various strap materials, including fluororubber and leather, and colours such as orange, green, black orange, and brown. The watch is also 5ATM water-resistant, making it suitable for various activities.

Dimensions and Weight

The smartwatch measures 47.6 x 45.9 x 11.8mm and is designed to fit wrist sizes ranging from 135 to 205mm. It weighs 54.5g without the strap, making it relatively lightweight and comfortable for extended wear.

Sensor Capabilities

The Xiaomi Watch 2 Pro is equipped with a comprehensive set of sensors, including an accelerometer, gyroscope, ambient light sensor, electronic compass, barometer, and optical heart rate sensor. Additionally, it features a bioelectrical impedance analysis sensor, which is less commonly found in smartwatches and offers more in-depth health metrics.

Battery and Charging

The device houses a 495mAh battery, which can last up to 65 hours on a single charge. It also supports magnetic charging, making it convenient to power up the device.

The 4G LTE variant has a shorter 55-hour battery life.

In comparison, the Pixel Watch has a 294 mAh battery with a claimed battery life of just 24 hours.

The Samsung Galaxy Watch6 40mm has a 300mAh battery with a claims battery of 40 hours with AOD off and 30 hours with AOD on. The 47mm Watch6 classic has a larger 425mAh battery but the same reported battery life.

The TicWatch Pro 5 is the one watch I can find with a better battery life. This has a 628mAh battery with a claimed 80 hours of battery life.

For Apple, they claim just 18 hours of normal usage with the Apple Watch Series 9 or 36 hours with the Apple Watch Ultra 2.

Connectivity Features

In terms of connectivity, the Xiaomi Watch 2 Pro supports both 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.2, and dual-band GNSS with five satellite positioning systems. This ensures a stable and fast connection to various devices and networks.

Wear OS by Google Integration

One of the standout features of the Xiaomi Watch 2 Pro is its integration with Wear OS by Google. This allows users to customise their smartwatch experience and gain easy access to Google’s suite of applications, including Google Wallet, Google Maps, and Google Assistant.

Performance and Connectivity

The smartwatch is powered by the next-generation Snapdragon W5 + Gen 1 wearable platform, offering fast and energy-efficient performance.

The Snapdragon W5 + Gen 1 was announced in 2022 and is manufactured on the 4nm fabrication process and features four ARM Cortex A53 cores up to 1.7 GHz and an Adreno 702 GPU. In comparison to the non Plus chipset, the W5 +  uses an additional Always-On-Chip in 22nm (QCC5100 with a 250 MHz Cortex-M55 CPU).

The only other Wear OS watch I am aware of to feature this chipset is the TicWatch Pro 5, which was announced back in May 2023.

In comparison, the Samsung Galaxy Watch6 uses the Exynos W930 (5 nm) which is a dual-core 1.4GHz Cortex-A55 chipset. In comparison, the Google Pixel Watch uses the older less powerful and less efficient Exynos 9110 (10 nm), which is a dual-core 1.15 GHz Cortex-A53 chipset.

It is rumoured that the Pixel Watch 2 may feature the same Snapdragon W5 + Gen 1 as the Xiaomi.

The Xiaomi Watch 2 Pro also has a 4G LTE variant, allowing users to stay connected to their smartphones without having to carry them around.

Health and Wellness Monitoring

For fitness enthusiasts, the Xiaomi Watch 2 Pro offers over 150 sports modes and provides detailed workout analysis and performance statistics. It also tracks sleep quality and essential body composition data, helping users make informed decisions about their exercise routines and lifestyle choices.

A Design That Lasts

The Xiaomi Watch 2 Pro combines durability with style. Its stainless steel body is both resilient and sophisticated, and the high-resolution AMOLED display ensures clarity and brightness. With a rotatable crown and Shortcut Key, users can easily navigate through the smartwatch’s functions.

In summary, the Xiaomi Watch 2 Pro appears to be a well-rounded smartwatch with a focus on customisation, performance, and comprehensive health tracking.

I am particularly impressed with the battery life, but we will have to see what the real life performance is like.

Whether you’re into fitness or looking for a smartwatch that can keep up with your daily activities, this device seems to offer a balanced mix of features to cater to a wide range of needs.
