Philips Hue, the smart lighting brand from Signify, has announced several new product launches that aim to provide more flexibility and integration for designing personalized lighting experiences in the home.
The products include a unique new wall light with dual beam control, new connectors for the Philips Hue Perifo track lighting system to enable more versatile layouts, and the availability of the previously announced Philips Hue Secure floodlight camera.
Sophisticated dual beam wall light
The Philips Hue Dymera is an architectural wall light that features separate control over upward and downward beams of light. With its modern black design and ability to illuminate large areas, it is suitable for both indoor and outdoor spaces.
Each beam can display different colours and brightness levels to create a layered lighting effect. The two light sources contain LEDs that can produce millions of colour shades from warm to cool white.
Using the Philips Hue app, users can select from preset scenes in the gallery or customise the wall light’s settings. For example, the upward beam could provide a soft ambient glow in one colour, while the downward beam spotlights a feature wall in a different tone.
More versatile track lighting
Philips Hue has launched two new connection accessories for its Perifo smart track lighting system – the Flexible Connector and the T Connector.
The Flexible Connector allows the track rails to bend around corners and across multiple planes, even transitioning from walls to ceilings. This permits the creation of unconventional track layouts beyond simple grids.
The T Connector enables track rails to branch off in three directions, opening up more possibilities for distributing light across an entire room. It is available in black and white color options to blend with existing décor.
Both new connectors give homeowners and professional installers the tools to take a more creative approach when designing bespoke track lighting plans using Philips Hue’s range of smart spotlights.
Philips Hue Secure floodlight camera
Signify has announced the availability of the Philips Hue Secure, an outdoor smart floodlight camera designed to boost home security. It features 1080p high definition video, motion activated lighting, color alerts, two-way talk, and custom activity zones.
When the camera detects movement, it can instantly illuminate the area in your choice of white or colour light via its two adjustable LED floodlights. Customers can select different colors for light-based notifications – for example, triggering a red floodlight when a person is detected.
The camera provides a live feed with secure encryption to the Philips Hue app, supports two-way talk, and can store video securely with an optional subscription. Activity zones allow users to specify areas they want to monitor.
The Philips Hue Secure also acts as a smart hub, meaning it can connect other Philips Hue lights in the system. This allows lighting to be activated based on the camera’s motion sensors.
Upcoming Philips Hue Secure features
Later in 2024, Signify plans to roll out new software updates for the Philips Hue Secure system. This will include enhancements to the Security Center in the Philips Hue app, such as improved push notifications and event timelines.
Philips Hue is also working on integrating the Secure system with Amazon Alexa and Google Home smart assistants. Users would then be able to access camera feeds and alerts using voice commands.
Additionally, automatic light and sound alarms triggered by motion detection are in development. This would enable Philips Hue bulbs and speakers to activate automatically when the camera sensors are triggered.
