I have criticised Mediatek a lot in the past few months with their questionable chipset launches, which seem to be minor tweaks for individual companies, likely as a marketing stunt.
There has still not been a flagship MediaTek Dimensity 1000 phone launched, even though he chipset was announced back in November.
This is set to change on the 19th of May, with the new MediaTek Dimensity 1000+ chipset, which is almost identical to the last one apart from the fact it supports 144Hz refresh rate displays.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 vs MediaTek Dimensity 1000+
Criticism aside, I am quite excited about the prospect of a flagship phone equipped with the MediaTek Dimensity 1000. This chipset should easily trade blows with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865, and it is the only flagship chipset that uses an integrated 5G modem. It is also the only chipset to support the AV1 codec.

iQOO Z1
Not too much is known about the phone itself, this is the first Z-series phone from the company. The launch poster showcases the display design of the Z1. It reveals the presence of a round-shaped cutout at the upper-right corner for the selfie snapper.
The poster states that iQOO Z1 is a 5G-ready smartphone and its display carries support for a 144Hz refresh rate.
While the poster doesn’t mention the MediaTek Dimensity 1000+ this has been all but confirmed.
It supports up to 144Hz refresh rate, it is speculated that the same 6.57-inch 144Hz display that is available on the recently unveiled iQOO Neo3 phone.
The iQOO Z1 seems to be equipped with a side-facing fingerprint reader.
A recent leak claims to show live images of the phone, including photos showing the different refresh rates that will be available form the options.
It is believed the phone will have a 44W rapid charger.
