Arizer Extreme Q Desktop Dry Herb Vaporiser Review For UK Medical Cannabis

This review is for the Arizer Extreme Q desktop vaporiser, which I use for medical cannabis. While I am liberal towards drug use, I don’t want to condone it recreationally, and this review is specifically geared towards the growing number of people in the UK who can afford to be prescribed it privately.  

For this review, I have used the American spelling of vapor as it seemed more consistent, as vaporiser always appears to be written without a u.

Background Information

I apologise for the long introduction. As this is for medicinal use, I think some context is required as I am not some stoner looking to legitimise my drug use.

At the start of 2023, I was diagnosed with ADHD and prescribed Elvanse / Lisdexamfetamine, which has helped me tremendously, but I have always had problems with my sleep.

Even before the ADHD medication, I had a hyperactive brain and anxiety and slept incredibly lightly, so I woke up constantly throughout the night.

Over the years, I have tried most things that help with sleep, including practising good sleep hygiene, waking up and going to bed at the same time, avoiding caffeine after 9 a.m. (I recently quit), exercising, and meditation.

I have tried most supplements that aid sleep, including Magnesium, melatonin, 5-HTP, L-theanine, Ashwagandha, and Valerian, and I have spent far too much money on different CBD products.

Additionally, in the past, I have been prescribed benzodiazepines/nonbenzodiazepines such as Zopiclone, Mirtazapine and, more recently, Daridorexant. I have also done CBT and regularly go to therapy.

Over the years, my sleep improved but was still bad, and Elvanse made it significantly worse. Mirtazapine works well, but I felt awful on it and gained loads of weight, and Daridorexant quickly lost its efficiency.

Eventually, in November 2023, I was prescribed medical cannabis through a private clinic, and it is the first medication that has had a significant difference in my sleep.

I have never smoked in my life and only tried cannabis a few times prior to this. One big issue I had was that the flower is the most affordable way to consume it, and you have to vaporise it; using it in any other way would be technically against the law.  

For me, my lack of smoking experience means my lungs are very sensitive, and I often struggle with coughing, even at low temperatures.

I was using an XMax V3 Pro Vaporiser, and it worked well, but my impulsive ADHD desire to buy things impulsively meant I quickly wanted to upgrade. I generally only vape at home just before bed, so a desktop vaporiser made more sense. The Arizer models are highly regarded and much more affordable than the popular Volcano vaporiser by Storz and Bickel.

Comparison to Other Models

Arizer Extreme Q vs XQ2

The XQ2 is an upgraded version of the Extreme Q, offering some improvements:

• Updated design with colour-changing LED lights
• Isolated vapor path for purer flavour

While these upgrades are nice, the core functionality remains similar. For most users, the Extreme Q offers better value for money, unless the specific improvements of the XQ2 are particularly appealing.

Arizer Extreme Q vs V-Tower

The V-Tower is Arizer’s whip-only desktop vaporiser. It’s essentially the Extreme Q without the fan and balloon functionality. For users who know they’ll only use the whip method, the V-Tower offers a more affordable option. However, the Extreme Q’s versatility makes it a better choice for those who want options or aren’t sure which method they’ll prefer.

Arizer Extreme Q vs Volcano Classic/Hybrid

The Volcano vaporisers by Storz & Bickel are often considered the gold standard of desktop vaporisers. They offer:

• Potentially better vapor quality
• Sturdier build quality

However, they come at a significantly higher price point. The Extreme Q offers similar functionality at a fraction of the cost, making it an excellent value proposition. For most medical cannabis users, the Extreme Q will meet their needs without the premium price tag.

I found that the Extreme Q produces thick, dense vapor clouds, particularly when using the balloon method.

2. Set the desired temperature and turn on the fan.

• Silicone Whip: Replacing the stock whip with a silicone one can improve flexibility and durability. Some users find silicone whips easier to handle and clean.

• Water Bubblers: Adding a water bubbler can further cool and filter the vapor, making it even smoother. This is particularly useful for those with sensitive lungs or those who prefer lower temperatures.
• Custom Balloons: Some users prefer to use custom-sized balloons for better portability or storage. This is a relatively inexpensive upgrade that can add convenience.

Replacement Parts

Arizer offers replacement glass cyclone bowls, whips, and other components at reasonable prices. The glass parts are sturdy, but accidents can happen, so having spares can prevent any downtime.

Recommended Water Bubblers

As I have sensitive lungs, I use balloons with a water bubbler. I personally bought the 7boX Thick Glass Percolator on Amazon as it was cheap at just £27, but it is no longer available. This model appears to be identical to the one I bought and it is just £25 but some reviews indicate that it arrived broken.

1. The Mega Globe MK2: This is a popular choice among Extreme Q users. It features a large spherical design that provides excellent vapor diffusion and cooling. The Mega Globe is compatible with 14mm and 18mm joints, making it versatile for use with various attachments.
2. Magic Flight Orbiter: While originally designed for the Magic Flight Launch Box, this compact bubbler works well with the Extreme Q. It’s known for its portability and efficient vapor conditioning.
3. GRAV Spherical Pocket Bubbler: This small, handheld bubbler is an excellent option for those who want a more portable solution. It’s easy to use and clean, making it a practical choice for daily use.
4. Mega Cube: This cube-shaped bubbler offers excellent vapor diffusion and cooling. Its stable base and 14mm female joint make it a good match for the Extreme Q.
5. Submarine Water Pipe: This is another popular option that sits between the Mini Globe and the Mega Globe in terms of water volume

When using a water bubbler with the Extreme Q, you’ll need a water pipe adapter (WPA) to connect the vaporiser to the bubbler. Arizer sells official adapters, but third-party options are also available.

Remember that while water filtration can make the vapor smoother and cooler, it may also reduce the potency slightly. Some users prefer to use dry bubblers or very little water to maintain the vapor’s strength while still benefiting from the additional cooling.

Adaptors Needed for Water Bubblers

The Arizer Extreme Q glass bowls have an 18mm hole, so to connect to a water bubbler using a whip, you can use one of the included elbow adaptors.  

You then, of course, need an equivalent adaptor for the pipe. I personally just use the elbow adaptor, and the bubbler I had also used is 18mm. 

If the bubbler hole is larger or smaller, you will want an 18mm female to the correct size male adaptor.

Similarly, if you use balloons, the included glass mini whip has an 18mm male end.

Price and Alternative Options

The Arizer Extreme Q has an RRP of £134. I bought mine from MagicVaporizers.co.uk, and at the time, I paid just £104, which was a bargain. At the time of writing, they have it listed at £134, and Amazon has it for £130.

The Arizer XQ2 has an RRP of £239, and the Arizer V-Tower is £98.

I would personally recommend the Extreme Q or XQ2 as I much prefer using the balloons to the whip.

Storz & Bickel has two Volcano models:

• Volcano Hybrid for £395
• Volcano Classic for £289

The Plenty Vaporizer is another popular desktop vaporiser, but it isn’t designed for use with balloons. It costs £189.

Verdict

The Arizer Extreme Q is a versatile and affordable desktop vaporiser that offers good performance for medical cannabis users. Its combination of balloon and whip delivery methods, along with precise temperature control, allows users to customise their experience to their needs.

While it may not have the premium feel or rapid heat-up times of more expensive models like the Volcano, the Extreme Q delivers where it counts – producing quality vapor at a fraction of the cost. The glass components contribute to pure flavour, and the device is relatively easy to clean and maintain.

For UK medical cannabis patients looking for a reliable desktop vaporiser without breaking the bank, the Arizer Extreme Q is a solid choice. It offers a good balance of functionality, ease of use, and affordability. The option to upgrade with aftermarket parts like the DDave Mod also allows users to enhance their experience over time.

However, users should be aware of the learning curve associated with the device and the need for careful handling of glass components. Those who prioritise the fastest heat-up times or the most premium build quality might want to consider higher-end options. Additionally, some of the glass parts break easily, I would recommend having some spare bowls and elbow joints.
