I am quite paranoid about my teeth. It is impossible to get an NHS dentist nowadays, private check-ups are cheap enough, and dentists offer various monthly plans, but if you need any serious treatment, it gets very expensive.
Therefore, keeping your teeth clean is essential.
However, I find electric toothbrushes annoying. I started off with a big brand name but lost the proprietary charger. Then with affordable options, I have often struggled to get replacement brush heads that are also affordable.
Bitvae is one of the most affordable brands on the market, and they seem to be an excellent option. I was recently sent the Bitvae R2 to review, which is currently available in the US, and will be available in the UK in May. UK buyers can currently get the Bitvae D2.

Design
There is not much to cover as far as the design and features of this toothbrush go. It is quite basic.
The two main things worth highlighting are the fact that this is charged via USB-C and has a travel case.
USB-C and wireless charging are becoming the norm now, which I am thankful for. I absolutely hate the proprietary chargers that big brand names use (or at least used when I last had one).
I think I prefer USB-C over wireless because I know I always have a USB-C cable somewhere.
Then, this comes with a travel case. It is quite basic, but it can fit two toothbrush heads in it, making it useful for a couple.
Beyond that, as you can see, this uses the circular style toothbrush head that rotates around rather than being called ultrasonic like the traditional toothbrush head design is classed as.
Then you have the power button and a second button to change the clean mode.
In-Use
Due to the affordable nature of this toothbrush, the USB-C charging and the travel case, I immediately decided this would be my travel toothbrush and live in my travel bag permanently.
I have been away three times since receiving this, so it has been really useful.
It is difficult to objectively say how good a toothbrush is compared to other brands. Considering the price of this, you have to question what makes something like the Oral-B iO9 worth $300/£225. I would hope it has superior cleaning performance but is it 10 times as good as this?
My normal toothbrush is an ultrasonic brush with a normal shaped toothbrush head, whereas this has a rotating circular design.
Due to the change in the design, I wasn’t sure how fond I was of this at first. Even though it has a smaller brush, it felt quite large in my mouth, but in general, I was happy with the perceived level of cleaning this managed. My teeth felt nice and clean, at least.
The more I used it, the more used to the brush head I became. I experimented with the different cleaning modes, but I think I prefer the standard clean mode, and out of laziness, this is what I use all the time.
As far as the battery goes, I haven’t had it long enough to drain it, but 30 days is plenty, especially with the USB charging. In comparison, the very expensive Oral-B iO9 states the battery only lasts two weeks.
Toothbrush Replacement Heads
I have found that a lot of these newer affordable toothbrush brands you see on Amazon either don’t list toothbrush head replacements or charge an excessive amount for them.
The Evowera Planck O1 toothbrush I currently use wasn’t affordable in the first place, but I was livid when I had to pay £20 for three toothbrush heads.
With the Bitvae R2, one of the big selling points for me is the fact that you get 8 toothbrush heads, which they state should last you two years.
Currently, Bitvae doesn’t list any R2 brush heads on Amazon US, but they do have brush heads for the D2 and S2, which costs roughly $10 for a four-pack, which is reasonable enough.
The Bitvae R2 has only been listed on Amazon for a bit over a month, whereas the D2 has been on there for over a year, so I’d expect them to list replacements before you use all of the included brush heads.
Price and Alternatives
The Bitvae R2 is currently available on Amazon US for $39.99, and at the time of writing, there is a $10 coupon code.
For UK readers, you can ship it from America for just $9.11, and this would costs roughly £32 with the discount applied.
The D2 is also available in the US for $25 with an additional 20% off coupon.
Then they also have the S2 for around $40 with a $15 off coupon. This has Bluetooth connectivity and a companion app.
In the UK, you would be better off with the Bitvae D2 Ultrasonic Electric Toothbrush, which is available on Amazon UK for £24.99 RRP but discounted to £19.98 and a £4 off voucher available (at the time of writing on 21st April).
The new high-end Bitvae Smart S3 has also been launched in the UK, priced at around £95. This has a massive 180 battery life, a pressure sensor and can be connected to an app for feedback and adjustable settings.
Overall
It is hard to fault the Bitvae R2 considering the fantastic price point and the fact that you get eight brush heads included, a travel case and convenient charging.
Bitvae, as a brand, appears to be the most affordable option on Amazon in both the US and the UK.
The Bitvae R2 is the best option if you like rotating toothbrushes with a circular head. However, the ultrasonic options are possibly better value for money. The D2 is quite a lot cheaper but doesn’t seem to come with a travel case. The S2 is at a similar price point and has a travel case. It then has app connectivity with a longer 100-day battery life, it has the same number of cleaning modes but also has 9 intensity levels.
Overall, the Bitvae R2 gets a strong recommendation from me, it brushes my teeth perfectly well, has loads of spare brush heads, includes a travel case and can be charged via USB-C. The only downside is that the other Bitvae options may be better value for money.
