Anker EverFrost vs EcoFlow Glacier vs THQ Alpicool TWW35

Last year, I reviewed the excellent Alpicool K25 portable car fridge. It was perfect for keeping my beer cold a long day during the hot summer on my mothers’ canal boat.

However, to run it, I needed to drag my Jackery Solar Station 1000 along with me, which ended up being quite cumbersome and took up a lot of space.

Anker has just announced the perect alternative solution, the Anker EverFrost, which is basically a portable fridge with a 299Wh battery that should easily keep the content cold for over 24 hours.

They are not the first company to launch such as device, but if you order the Anker EverFrost through the Kickstarter campaign, it is by far the most affordable option.

EcoFlow Glacier

EcoFlow Glacier 05

At CES 2023, EcoFlow announced the Glacier portable fridge, claiming to be the industry’s first portable fridge to feature a built-in icemaker, keeping food fresh and drinks cool for maximum enjoyment.

At the moment, not a great deal is known about this powered cooler, but it has a 297Wh battery capacity that runs for up to 24 hours. The icemaker can also produce 18 ice cubes in approximately 12 minutes.

It looks like this will have a large 38L capacity, and it will weigh 23kg by itself. As that will inevitably be difficult to carry when fully loaded (with beer), it designed to be rolled around like luggage.

If you want to efficiently power the Glacier, it is possible with a solar panel (max. 220 W). This only works in combination with the additional battery. This plug-in battery is not included and must be ordered separately.

You can additionally power the Glacier via the 12V charger in the car or via the wall socket.

Price & Availability

One website has the EcoFlow Glacier available to pre-order for €1199, which is a bit above my price point for a fridge like this! It is expected to start shipping from May.

Anker EverFrost

Anker has now expanded its product line up with their own powered cooler, which is now available to order on Kickstarter. If you get in early, you will receive a massive 45% discount.

For the Anker EverFrost, you have three size options, 33L, 43L and 53L, and it looks like they all have the same 299Wh battery.

This isn’t quite as fancy as the EcoFlow Glacier, there is no dedicated ice maker, but it does have a dual zone design, allowing you to run one zone as a fridge and the other as a freezer. Temperature ranges are -20°C – 20°C / -4°F – 68°F.

The 299Wh battery is detachable and can work independently as a high-capacity power pack and includes a 60W PD USB-C port and two 12W USB-A ports.

This also accepts solar input, but you are limited to 100W.

THQ Alpicool TWW35

alpicool

I thought the EcoFlow Glacier was a unique product when it was announced, but there are a handful of competing options.

In the UK, there is the THQ Alpicool TWW35 which is priced at around £500.

This is a 35L fridge that uses a 15600mAh, 173Wh lithium-ion battery and weighs in at 17.5kg.

They claim it will keep the fridge cool at 5°C for 20 hours when the ambient temperature is 25°C.

It is also a dual-compartment design with a 10L and 25L compartment, and the temperature range is -20°C to +20°C.

Like the other options, you have a range of power inputs too, with:

  • Car Lighter DC 12V/24V: 1
  • Wall Socket Charger 220VAC: 1
  • Solar Panel 12-50Vdc: 1, 10A max; Capacity: 100-200W

The basic design is similar too, being a trunk with wheels and pull-out telescopic handle.
