It looks like Xiaomi sub-brand Redmi intends to add another K30 model to the already extensive list of phones.
Two separate sources have identified up and coming Redmi devices, though not necessarily the same phone.
XDA Member kacskrz, has identified the existence of the Redmi K30 Ultra within a recent MIUI 12 build. The branding appeared alongside the device codename “cezanne”. Then another code snippet in MIUI 12 suggested that cezanne will come with a quad rear camera setup which would include a 64MP sensor. Other code indicated that the phone will also have a pop-up camera.
Those specification details are hardly surprising if this is a K30 phone, these are all features the Redmi K30 Pro already has with a quad camera, 64MP lens and pop up selfie.
What is interesting is that the phone is apparently powered by a MediaTek SoC. Xiaomi and MediaTek have been working together a lot recently, with an Ultra moniker this could only leave the Dimensity 1000 (or 1000+) as possible options for the phone. Technically the Dimensity 1000 isn’t quite as powerful as the SD865 on the K30 Pro, but it is a close call.
MediaTek and Xiaomi have also been reported as working on a custom chipset together, but it is probably too early for this to be used.
In a separate leak on Weibo via Digital Chat Station, it has been reported that Xiaomi have developed a phone with the MediaTek Dimensity 1000 (MT6889). This device will come with a 144Hz LCD display, alongside a 64MP Sony IMX686 primary camera and a pop-up selfie camera. It will also support 33W fast charging for its 4500 mAh battery.
It has been assumed that this could be the Redmi K40 series but considering the K30 Ultra revelation it is quite likely that both phones are the same.
The existing Redmi K30 Pro has the following spec:
- Display – 6.67 inches 2400 x 1080 60Hz
- Chipset – Qualcomm Snapdragon 865
- RAM – 6GB/8GB
- Storage – 128GB/256GB (no microSD)
- Main Camera – 64 MP + 5MP telephoto macro + 13MP ultrawide + 2MP depth
- Front Camera – 20MP pop up
- Battery – 4700mAh + 30W charging
In the UK we never got any of the Redmi K30 devices, but the Redmi K30 Pro was rebranded to Poco F2 Pro.
