Ultion Nuki 2025 Review
Summary
The Ultion Nuki package takes an already excellent smart lock and turns it into a far more practical and polished solution for UK doors. The integrated handle and high-security cylinder address both aesthetic and installation issues that most retrofit smart locks suffer from, while retaining the reliability and performance that make the Nuki Smart Lock Pro 5th Gen stand out. It is not the cheapest option, and the bundled approach limits flexibility, but as a complete system it delivers one of the most refined smart lock experiences currently available.

Pros
- Seamless integrated handle design
- Excellent fingerprint unlock performance
- Strong physical security cylinder included
- Reliable app and connectivity options
Cons
- Proprietary magnetic charging cable
- Handle not sold separately
- Keypad easy to physically remove
- Premium price versus standard setups
I reviewed the Ultion Smart Lock back in 2020, which integrated the Danalock V3 into a handle and included an Ultion high-security cylinder.
I thought it was an excellent lock, and the £50 or so price premium over a Danalock V3 seemed well worth it.
Admittedly, the Danalock part of it was not the best smart lock I have reviewed; it had great potential, but the app was poor, and I reviewed many superior products in subsequent years.
Last year, I reviewed the Nuki Smart Lock Pro 5th Gen, which has been my favourite smart lock to date. It has worked much more reliably than any other smart lock I have tried, the app is decent enough, and the keypad and fingerprint scanner are substantially better than options from other brands.
I was therefore delighted when Ultion asked me to review their latest Ultion Nuki, which was launched at the end of last year.

Ultion Nuki vs Nuki Smart Lock Pro 5th Gen: What is it?
The Ultion Nuki follows the same concept as my original Ultion review, but instead of a Danalock, it integrates the Nuki Smart Lock Pro with the door handle and includes the latest 3-star PLUS Ultion lock.
Ultion has changed the design for the better. The previous model I reviewed had the lock integrated directly into the door handle. But with this model, the door handle is separate from the Nuki and is designed to make it easy to clip in.
This makes installation simpler and results in a much neater installation rather than the typical method of mounting a smart lock awkwardly onto the door hardware.
Specification / Features
The Ultion Nuki 2025 package centres on the Nuki Smart Lock Pro 5th Gen paired with a dedicated Ultion door handle and an Ultion 3-star PLUS lock cylinder. Key specifications are as follows:
- Price: £339 (includes Nuki Smart Lock Pro 5th Gen, Ultion door handle, and Ultion 3-star PLUS cylinder)
- Smart Lock dimensions: 57mm diameter, 70mm depth
- Motor: Brushless, with three speeds (Gentle, Standard, and Insane)
- Connectivity: Built-in Wi-Fi and Thread (Matter-compatible)
- Power: Built-in rechargeable battery, USB-C charging (see note below)
- Battery life: Up to 9-12 months on Thread, 4-6 months on Wi-Fi
- Smart home integration: Apple HomeKit, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, Home Assistant via Matter
- Cylinder: Ultion 3-star PLUS, BSI Kitemark certified, with a £5,000 security guarantee
- Handle compatibility: 215mm, 211mm, and 122mm fixing distances
- Access methods: Physical key, smartphone app, Nuki Keypad 2.0 (PIN and fingerprint), key fob
- Keypad (sold separately): Supports fingerprint and 6-digit PIN, up to 200 PIN codes and 20 fingerprints
The Ultion 3-star PLUS cylinder holds the BSI Kitemark and has reportedly passed every relevant physical security standard. Ultion backs it with a £5,000 security guarantee, which is reassuring and something you simply do not get with budget cylinders.
Unboxing / Design

The packaging is functional rather than flashy. Inside the box, each component is well separated and protected. You get the Nuki Smart Lock Pro, the Ultion 3-star PLUS cylinder with keys, the door handle hardware, mounting accessories, and instruction materials including QR codes for online setup guides.
The Nuki Smart Lock Pro itself has a refined circular design with a brushed stainless steel finish. It comes with a choice of white or black accent rings. The build quality is noticeably better than most competing products, with the aluminium top section giving it a premium feel. You can tell Nuki has been refining this design over several generations.

The Ultion handle has a clean, straightforward look. It is not trying to be anything special, but it does the job well and looks far tidier than having a smart lock clamped onto a thin standard door handle. The integration between the handle and the Nuki is the real selling point here, and it shows in the finished installation.

One thing I do appreciate about the Nuki is the magnetic charging port on the exterior. You can top up the battery using a power bank without removing anything from the door. My one gripe with the charging setup is that it uses a proprietary magnetic cable rather than USB-C. I have a habit of losing cables, and having yet another unique charger to keep track of is a minor but persistent annoyance.

Installation
The physical installation was no more difficult than swapping out a lock cylinder.
You remove the handles, then the screw that secures the cylinder in place, remove the old cylinder and slide in the new one. There is some jiggling to be done to get it to insert properly, and you will need to have the key in on the outside so you can turn the lock so that it can slide in.
When I originally looked at the Ultion website, I thought the Ultion lock was adjustable, similar to the Yale cylinders I used. However, it is not. But the pre-fitted bar that is used to turn the lock is very long and should be long enough to accommodate any door size.
One caveat with the Ultion handle is that it has three screw holes, one at the top, middle and bottom. The bottom screw is adjustable, giving you 215mm and 211mm screw to choose from.
For the top screw, the bolt part that goes inside the doorframe can be unscrewed, giving you the option to install on 122mm doors, which all my doors are. Being a typical man, I didn’t read the instructions or website properly, and I thought I was doing a hack job by removing the top bolt, but the Ultion website says they support 122mm doors.
With the handle installed minus the top screw, the handle felt more than secure enough. I had a similar issue with the ERA Protect Smart Universal Door Handle when I installed it on my garage/gym door, however with this, the top part of the lock pulls away from the door which doesn’t look great and could potentially lead to the lock breaking at some point.
One small difference between the Ultion-supplied lock and the Nuki Smart Lock Pro is a small but important plastic piece that inserts into the Nuki, and the bar from the cylinder slots into it, ensuring the lock turns properly. When I used the Nuki with the Yale adjustable cylinder, none of the adaptors worked with it, and I had to use a makeshift solution by jamming folded paper inside the Nuki.
Set Up
With the physical installation done, everything else about this lock is identical to my previous Nuki Smart Lock Pro 5th Gen review.
The initial setup uses the Nuki mobile app, which guides you through each stage with clear instructions and visual prompts. The app requests location permissions for automatic locking and unlocking features, though you can decline these if you prefer not to share your location data.
Firmware updates happen during the initial setup, typically taking 5 to 10 minutes. You cannot skip these, which can be a bit frustrating when you just want to try the lock, but they usually include important security patches.
Calibration is remarkably simple. All I had to do was close the door, lift the handle and tell the app to calibrate. That was it. With other smart locks, you normally have to go through a lengthy process of locking, unlocking, opening, and closing repeatedly. The Nuki just worked.
If you are adding the Keypad 2.0, that installation takes a few minutes. It mounts with 3M adhesive or screws. Bluetooth pairing with the smart lock is quick and reliable. The fingerprint enrolment process requires multiple scans of each finger, which takes a bit longer than you might be used to from smartphone fingerprint sensors, but the result is more reliable recognition during daily use.
Home Assistant
Previously, I was unable to connect the Nuki to my Connect ZBT-1/SkyConnect, but I have since upgraded to the Home Assistant Connect ZBT-1, which allowed me to successfully pair the Nuki to my HA installation.
With it added to HA, I am able to lock and unlock the door, check battery status, and view past events.
You then have several triggers which can be used for automation. So, you could switch lights on when someone unlocks the door, or send an alert when the battery level drops to a certain level.
In Use
The day-to-day experience with the Ultion Nuki has been excellent, and this is almost entirely because the Nuki Smart Lock Pro 5th Gen is such a well-made product.
App Unlock
The Nuki app provides several ways to unlock the door remotely. You can use the app directly over Bluetooth when nearby, or remotely via Wi-Fi or Thread connectivity. There is also an auto-unlock feature that uses GPS and Bluetooth proximity detection to open the door automatically when you approach. While I found this feature does work, I tend to leave it off. I am so forgetful that I get a bit paranoid if the door is unlocked when I get home. I prefer the physical action of unlocking my door with my fingerprint.
The Lock’n’Go feature automatically secures the door after a preset delay when you leave. In the UK, this feature is somewhat limited because most homes need you to lift the handle to engage the multi-point locks. Due to this, I prefer to lock the door myself so I feel confident the door is properly secured.
Remote operation through various smart home platforms works reliably, with typical response times under three seconds for unlock commands.
Fingerprint Unlock
Both my partner and I have noticed how much better the Nuki is at locking and unlocking than other smart locks. The fingerprint sensor on the Keypad 2.0 seems to respond almost immediately, and the door locks and unlocks much faster than alternatives I have tested.
The fingerprint scanner maintains consistent performance across various conditions. Rain or sweaty fingers can often prevent fingerprint sensors from working on other products, but the Nuki Keypad 2.0 has handled these situations well in my testing so far.
One thing to be aware of is the Keypad’s physical security. It mounts with 3M adhesive or screws, but it can be removed without much resistance. While removing the keypad would not compromise the security of your door, it is an expensive accessory to lose. It is best installed in a location that is not easily accessible from the street.
Battery Life
As I have been using the Smart Lock Pro since July 2025, I can confirm that the battery life is excellent. During this time, I think I have charged it twice, with only one occasion where I was warned it was low, as I try to be proactive about not letting it get too low.
The keypad is still on the original batteries.
Nuki states that Thread connectivity delivers 9 to 12 months of battery life under typical usage, while Wi-Fi reduces this to 4 to 6 months. With just two of us in the house, our usage is probably lower than most households, but I have also spent more time than average playing around with all the features during testing.
The magnetic charging system works efficiently, typically requiring 2 to 3 hours for a full charge. The ability to charge in place using a power bank is a real convenience, even if I would have preferred USB-C as I mentioned earlier.
The Keypad 2.0 uses AAA batteries, which provide excellent longevity with minimal power drain during standby. Active usage with frequent fingerprint scans or PIN entries does not dramatically impact overall battery life, and I have not needed to replace the batteries since installation.

| Ultion Nuki Smart Lock 2025 - for PVC & Composite Doors... | Buy on Amazon |
The Ultion Nuki costs £339, which includes the Nuki Smart Lock Pro 5th Gen, the Ultion 3-star PLUS lock cylinder and the Ultion door handle.
The Ultion 3-star PLUS lock by itself is £63.
The Nuki Smart Lock Pro 5th Gen is £229.
So, you are basically paying £100 for the door handle hardware and the lock cylinder.
With smart locks, I have normally used the Yale Linus Adjustable Cylinder as it saves me from having to measure the door width. This is £35 but is a much less secure lock than the Ultion and only comes with 2 keys.
Most half-decent cylinders are £30 upwards.
Overall
I love the Nuki Smart Lock Pro 5th Gen, so it comes as no surprise that I love the Ultion Nuki.
It solves one of my biggest gripes about installing smart locks, where you have to mount the lock on top of a thin door handle. This is often quite an ugly installation, and if not done properly, the smart lock can come loose. Granted, with this, you still have a big bulbous smart lock, but it is securely fitted and sits flush with the hardware. It is a far superior solution.
I find it baffling that Ultion are the only company doing this, as it makes so much sense. You would have thought that brands like Nuki, Yale and others would manufacture their own door handles that they could then upsell. Or, third-party manufacturers making the handles specific to different lock brands. However, the lack of competition is clearly beneficial for Ultion.
The £100 price premium may seem a bit high, given that there used to be a £50 premium, but I still think it is a bargain, given that you get the high-security lock cylinder and handle together.
The only real criticism I have is that I don’t really understand why this needs to be sold as a whole package. It would be great if you could handle it separately. I am sure many existing Nuki users would be more than happy to spend £60-70 on a handle that improves installation quality and overall appearance. Additionally, I would assume the Nuki Smart Lock Ultra would fit this handle, and this would likely create a much more aesthetic solution thanks to the slimmer profile of the Ultra.
Overall, if you are thinking of buying a Nuki Smart Lock Pro 5th Gen and plan to install it on a typical UPVC British door, then I would very strongly recommend you fork out the extra money for the Ultion Nuki, as it is a fantastic solution.
