Tokyo-based smart home company SwitchBot has announced the launch of the S10, an innovative new robot vacuum cleaner with the world’s first fully autonomous self-refilling and draining system. The S10 is currently raising funds on Kickstarter, with super early bird pricing starting at $799.

Unlike existing robot vacuums that require manual refilling and emptying, the S10 features a compact Water Station that connects directly to plumbing to automatically refill its water tank and drain dirty water. The Water Station has one pipe for clean water and another that links to the sewage drain, allowing the S10 to function much like a washing machine in self-supplying and draining water without any manual intervention.
Once connected, the S10 can be placed anywhere with access to a water supply and drainage. The Water Station shares water supply from dishwashers, washing machines or directly from home plumbing using the included accessories. Measuring just 10cm x 40cm, the Water Station has a small footprint, even when paired with SwitchBot’s auto-emptying station.
For homes where connecting to plumbing is not possible, SwitchBot will provide an external water tank with 2.5 liters of fresh water capacity and 2 liters for waste water. This accessory comes at no extra cost for Kickstarter backers.
In addition to self-refilling, the S10 also automatically helps refill SwitchBot’s Evaporative Humidifier and drain the SwitchBot Dehumidifier using its direct plumbing connection. The Evaporative Humidifier provides cool mist, reduces white dust and prevents damage to furniture.
The S10 has a full suite of vacuuming and mopping features powered by strong 6500Pa suction. It uses an anti-tangle rubber brush optimized for carpets, a roller mop for hard floors and LiDAR navigation with AI to avoid obstacles and map homes.
Other key features include:
- Self-vacuuming and mopping
- Self-drying after cleaning
- Self-emptying dustbin
- LiDAR mapping
- AI obstacle avoidance
- Carpet drying technology
- 6500Pa suction power
SwitchBot plans to add Matter support in the future once the protocol officially supports robot vacuums. This will allow the S10 to work with other Matter-compatible smart home devices.
The SwitchBot S10 is now available on Kickstarter with super early bird pricing starting at $799. The estimated retail price when it launches is $1199.
Quoted in the announcement, SwitchBot CEO Simon Weng said: “The S10 takes the robot vacuum to the next level with its revolutionary self-refilling and draining system. This eliminates the hassle of manual maintenance so you can truly experience hands-free cleaning.”
The Kickstarter campaign has already raised over $1 million in the first day, demonstrating strong interest in this innovative new product. Delivery of the first S10 units to backers is estimated for July 2024 if fundraising goals are met.
