Huawei MateBook 14s vs Huawei MateBook 14 2021 & Matebook D 14 Specifications Compared

Yesterday, Huawei announced the Huawei MateBook 14s, which sits on the high end of the price and specs from the Huawei range of laptops. Only the MateBook X Pro 2021 costs more.

On the Huawei website, there are now 4 laptops listed with some variation of the MateBook 14 name, and without going into each product page, it can be difficult to work out what the differences are. Even the product images look the same.

So how does the Huawei MateBook 14s differ from the existing MateBook 14 from this year, or the Matebook D 14, which comes in an AMD variant I reviewed earlier in the year and an Intel variant?

Display / Dimensions / Weight

The new Huawei MateBook 14s offers small but useful upgrades from the existing MateBook 14 2021.

The screen and overall dimensions are slightly larger, yet they have somehow shaved 60g of weight off.

All the Matebook’s use the same 3:2 aspect ratio, but the MateBook 14s has the highest resolution, which in turn means the highest pixel density with 2520 x 1680 & 213 PPI. It also increases the refresh rate to 90hz and increases the brightness by 33% up to 400nits.

CPU & GPU

The CPU has is the Intel i7-11370H, which is actually older than the Intel Core i7-1165G7, but it has a base frequency of 3.30 GHz vs 2.80 GHz and a fractionally faster GPU while using a bit more power with 35W vs 28W.

Battery

The battery is fractionally better but I suspect the higher resolution display and more power-hungry CPU will mean real-world performance will be a bit less. You do, however, get faster 90W charging.

RAM and Storage

The MateBook 14s now comes with 16GB of RAM as standard and a base storage option of 512GB, the MateBook 14 has the same storage but the base RAM is 8GB.

Matebook D 14

The Matebook D branded laptops are lower priced and lower spec in general. The displays are 1920 x 1080, the AMD MateBook 14 model isn’t quite as powerful as the 11th Gen MateBook 14 laptops. The Intel MateBook  D 14 uses the older Intel Core i7-10510U, and it is now discontinued.

Price

The Matebook 14s has quite a bit of a price premium vs the MateBook 14 2021. The lowest spec model is £1200 vs £950 then the 1TB model goes up to £1300.

I have been impressed with all the Matebook laptops, they look fantastic, are light and portable and offer an excellent spec for the money. The new Huawei MateBook 14s should be the most powerful option they have as the MateBook X Pro 2021 uses a lower power CPU to help it achieve its thin and light design, weighing just 1.33.
