In recent months there have been numerous leaks about a 16-core Ryzen 3000 series chip, so there was a bit of disappointment when the Computex launched only announced chips up to 12-cores with the R9 3900X.

It now appears AMD was holding back. Today, one of AMD’s big E3 product announcements has leaked, revealing to the world the “world’s first 16-core gaming processor”, the Ryzen 9 3950X. This processor is said to have CPU core clock speeds that boost as high as 4.7GHz and a TDP of 105W, marking a huge uptick in both performance and power efficiency over AMD’s last-generation product offerings.

If the leak is true it will have a slightly lower base clock than the 3900X but the boost speeds will be higher. Furthermore, the level two cache has increased from 6MB to 8MB. All of which sounds quite impressive for a 105W chip.

The 3900X will set you back $499 and that chip is $100 more than the 3800X which is $399. So I would expect this to cost at least $599. What this will translate to in GBP is anyones guess.
